SOUTHWICK – Attorney Mary J. Keenan (1938 – 2020) passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Baystate Medical Center. She was one of five children to her parents, Daniel and Rose (Jarry) Keenan, where she grew up in Southwick, and was a life-long student, educator, advocate and trusted friend. Mary served the Sisters of St. Joseph for over 13 years, graduated from Elms College with a degree in teaching and taught English, French and Calculus. She was recognized for her appreciation and strength in science, when receiving an award by the National Science Foundation to study at the University of San Diego. She continued her education graduating from Western New England Law School and then opened her practice, Keenan Law Office, in Westfield for many years, concentrating on Elder and Tax Law, non-profit, and pro bono work. She was a favorite teacher to students, a
great friend to many and loved to laugh. Mary is survived by her brother Dr. Joseph Keenan, her nephews Daniel, John, Jay and Thomas Keenan, and their
families, all of whom will miss her greatly. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her siblings, Daniel and Anne Keenan and Rose-Ellen Sweeney.
Friends and family are invited to gather for visiting hours on Monday, January 13, 2020 from 4:00-7:00pm at Southwick Forastiere Funeral & Cremation on 624 College Highway in Southwick. Her funeral service will take place on Tuesday, January 14th at 9:00am at the funeral home, and 10:00am at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Southwick.
