Mary Lou Moccio

WESTFIELD – Mary Lou Moccio, 69, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 surrounded by her family. Mary Lou was born on February 24, 1951 and resided in Westfield for her entire life. A lifelong parishioner of St. Mary’s Parish and 1968 St. Mary’s High School graduate, Mary Lou married her loving husband Jim on June 30, 1979. After receiving her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Westfield State, Mary Lou taught in the Westfield Public School system for 35 years, spending the majority of her time as a beloved Kindergarten teacher at Juniper Park, before retiring in June 2009. Once retired, she spent 10 years volunteering for both the Westfield CSF Dollars for Scholars organization and as a money counter for St. Mary’s Church. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, spending time with her family and friends and annual vacations to Ogunquit, Maine.

Mary Lou was predeceased by her father, Charles Maynard. She leaves her inspirational mother, Regina (Sullivan) Maynard, her husband of 41 years Jim, sons Timothy and his wife Erin, and Brian and his wife Sheila, her brother John (Jack) Maynard, her sister-in-law Irene (Moccio) Cross, as well as many close friends. The funeral Mass for Mary Lou will be held on Tuesday, July 7th at 10:30am in St. Mary’s Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Calling hours will held on Monday at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield from 4-7pm.
