WESTFIELD – Maura J. (Haskell) Parent, 50, of 102 Westwood Drive, Westfield, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014. She was born in Springfield on September 10, 1963 to Michael Haskell and Phyllis (O’Connor) Koziol.
From a young age, Maura spent her days in Westfield with her mother and step-father John Koziol. Always involved with the performing arts, she actively participated in choir, dance, and the Majorettes. Maura was always optimistic and enthusiastic about life, and that is what earned her the title of Miss Congeniality. Nine years after graduating from Westfield High School, she married her loving husband, James M. Parent III. Together, they adopted and raised two devoted children, Benjamin, 19 and Margaret, 15.
A positive role model to everyone, Maura spent the majority of her career in the Westfield Public School system as a paraprofessional. She enjoyed all of her jobs from working beside children with special needs at South Middle School, to assisting in running the Munger Hill library, and finally performing secretary duties behind the front desk at Westfield High School.
Maura passed away in the comfort of her home beside her husband, children, and dear friend. Calling hours begin 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Monday at Firtion Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad Street, Westfield.
