Gateway stops skid

The Gateway Regional High School softball team found a road trip to be the cure to some recent ills.
“We’re still trying to find our identity,” said Gateway coach Mike Mason, following the Gators 11-6 win over host Sabis yesterday. “We’ve had multiple position changes, player have come up and gone down (to junior varsity) – we’re still trying to find out what we’re all about.”
Mason and Gators’ fans got a small glimpse of what made last year’s run to the tournament a success – team-oriented ball.
Gateway (4-7) teamed up on Sabis from the outset, scoring two runs in the first inning, tacking on one run in each of the second and fourth innings, and effectively ending the game in the fifth (4 runs) and sixth (3 runs).
The Gators managed to score all their runs with just four hits – one each from Becca Wolf, Jamie Pease, Brooke Fairman, and Madison Graham.
But a win is a win.
“It’s been a challenging season,” coach Mason said.
