WHS back in the swing of things

The Westfield High School softball team is back in a business.
After a meltdown at Agawam – brought on, of course, by a well-conditioned squad – the Westfield Bombers returned to being the big boppers.
Westfield clubbed a dozen runs to earn a 12-0 shutout over visiting West Springfield in a mercy-rule shortened, five-inning victory yesterday.
Westfield opened with a 3-0 lead in the first inning, broke open the game with eight runs in the fourth, and the rout was on.
“We needed this,” Westfield coach Joe Stella said. “Hopefully, we will look back and say we learned from it, and move forward.”
The hit list was lengthy, including offense from Jules Sharon (2 doubles, RBI), Maddy Atkocaitis (double, RBI), Heather White (hit, 2 walks), Liz Gale (3-for-4, double, 2 RBIs), Katelyn Puza (2-3, 3 RBIs), Emily Chrzanowski (hit, RBI), Ashley Therriault (2 bunt singles), Syd Ezold (hit, RBI), and Jessie Pratt (hit, 2 RBIs).
Kate Menard delivered a solid performance on the mound for the Bombers. Menard scattered four hits and struck out six batters.
