WESTFIELD- The Greater Westfield Chamber of Commerce’s monthly Mayor’s Coffee Hour will feature a twist Oct. 7 when mayoral candidates Police Capt. Michael A. McCabe and State Sen. Donald F. Humason Jr. will speak and answer questions at Western Massachusetts Hospital.
Kate Phelon, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, said that each candidate will be arriving at separate times and will be given 30 minute windows to speak. McCabe will speak first from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., and Humason will speak from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m..
Current Mayor Brian P. Sullivan will be in attendance as well. The monthly coffee hours are typically used as a chance for him to speak about things that are going on in the city and its government. The general election for mayor takes place on Nov. 5, less than a month after the coffee hour event.
Phelon said that the event will be very informal. Each candidate will begin with opening remarks after which they will take questions from members of the audience. Phelon said that she also prepared questions.
She added that the Mayor’s Coffee Hour has been happening since she became the executive director of the Chamber of Commerce in 2011. At the time, it was run by Mayor Daniel M. Knapik. Sullivan continued the tradition when he took office in 2015.
Each session typically brings in 35 to 45 people, according to Phelon. She said she expects more people to attend this time around because of the mayoral candidates.
