A scavenger-hunt of sorts, the self-driven event had 30 city businesses participate by placing a number in their window. Residents drove through the city seeking the numbers and filled out a form that entered them into a prize drawing.

Holly Lurgio, one of the event organizers, said there were 45 families and individuals that participated.

“We would absolutely do it again,” she said. “We received some great feedback from both businesses and participants, so we may make a few changes, add in some challenges, add businesses, etc.”

Lurgio said the event was aimed at offering families something different to do together during COVID, as well as highlight local businesses and encourage families to explore their own city.

The Alderman family, Logan Kreikamp, Tom Woodson and the Kratchovil family all won prizes.

Lurgio said the list of supporters was long and she wanted to “thank all those who donated prizes – especially the Kiwanis, who donated the bulk of the gift cards and didn’t hesitate for one second when they were asked. City councilor Ralph Figy and Dazzlers Hair Design contributed gift cards and Westfield Bank threw in some swag. Westfield resident Ginny Hebert heard about some of the Mayor’s annual events and donated a huge box of all kinds of fun stuff to keep kids happy and having fun.”

Lurgio said the participating businesses “played along and were willing to go out on a limb and be a part of this new event. In addition, we want to thank all those who participated in the scavenger hunt! Our hope was to give families something fun and free to do in the city as well as hopefully increase foot traffic into local businesses. We hope to do this again in the future!”
