Michael P. Pavlovich

WEST SPRINGFIELD – Michael P. Pavlovich, 80 died Wednesday, March 6, 2013 in Baystate Medical Center. He was born in Westfield on March 26, 1932 to the late Michael and Mary (Makara) Pavlovich who were immigrants of Czechoslovakia.
He grew up in Westfield, attended local schools and was a graduate of Westfield Trade High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1958 from Western New England College where he studied Engineering and Law. He received his Masters Degree in Education in 1964 from Westfield State College and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in 1972. He has been a teacher in Westfield since 1960 and retired in 2005. He was a teacher in the Manufacturing Technology Program at the Westfield Vocational Technical High School. He taught Industrial Arts at Westfield Intermediate School, the old City Hall, and Westfield Junior High School. Michael was one of two candidates in the state to be selected for a federal fellowship in vocational education.
As part of a grant, he received a two year leave from his teaching position to attend the University of Connecticut for pre-doctoral work. During that time, he completed an internship with the Vocational Education Department in Boston. After retirement, he was a Tool & Die maker for Walley Precision in Southwick. He was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church in West Springfield and enjoyed spending time in his garden.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marta (Kamenska) Pavlovich in 1997. He leaves his daughters, Diana DelMonte and her husband Mark of Westfield, and Alice Deleonardis and her husband Rick of West Springfield; his granddaughter, Laura DelMonte; his brothers, Andrew and John Pavlovich both of West Springfield and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary.
The funeral for Michael will be held on Wednesday, March 13th at 9:00 a.m. from the Firtion-Adams funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Thomas Church, West Springfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Westfield. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
