WESTFIELD – The Westfield Youth Lacrosse 2nd grade Mite team finished up a successful season this past Monday with a road victory against the East Longmeadow Bantams.
This group of 16 worked extremely hard this spring and truly came together as a team. The main objectives of this developmental program was to have fun, improve fundamental skills, work together as a team, and understand how hard work and discipline pays off in sports and life. Along with their dedication to developing into better lacrosse players and athletes, the team was able to see the benefit of unselfish play and the coaches responded with praise.
“Mite-Red,” as they are known, showed a lot of growth this year.
Whether it was through rigorous practices or testing their skills against opposing teams, the home town team remained focused and improved every week.
With a limited number of second grade teams in the area, the Mite-Red often sought competition against older area teams.
Games were scheduled against Agawam (2), Avon (2), East Longmeadow, Longmeadow, Monson, Northampton, and other Westfield teams.
Upon the final whistle of the season, the Mite-Red’s record was unblemished.
The players put forth great effort all season and should be proud of their accomplishments. Congratulations to all the players and best wishes for next year!
The team has responded with a special thank you to Stanley Park for their hospitality to the WYL and visiting teams.
