Motorcycle accident sends one to the hospital

WESTFIELD—A two-vehicle crash yesterday evening resulted in one motorcycle “engulfed in flames” and its operator being transported to a local hospital.

Westfield Police reported a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and another vehicle that occurred on Franklin Street at the Madison Street intersection, around 5:20 p.m. yesterday.

According to Westfield Police Capt. Michael McCabe, following the accident the motorcycle became “engulfed in flames.” Westfield Fire Department responded to the scene, both to tend to the motorcycle and to the motorcyclist, who was reported injured.

According to McCabe, the other vehicle involved in the accident had pulled out of Madison Street, allegedly attempting to take a left. It was during this time that the motorcycle had reportedly struck the driver’s side of the vehicle.

The motorcyclist, who was not identified by police, was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, by Westfield Fire Department. There were no reports on their status given.
