Nancy (Deveno) Scott

WESTFIELD – Nancy (Deveno) Scott, 92, (1931 – 2023) passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 6, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Nancy, fondly known by many as Nauney, was born on March 4, 1931, the daughter of the late Michael and Mary E. (Delnero) Deveno. She was one of 13 children. Nancy was a 1949 graduate of Westfield High School, where she designed her School Banner. She drove a school bus in Westfield for 9 years. She also worked as a cocktail waitress and singer for the Yankee Pedlar Inn in Holyoke for 25 years. She completed courses in childcare and worked in her home Children’s Day Care for over 23 years, at Nauney’s Day Care, taking loving care of countless children. Nancy supported her husband Norman by working behind the scenes at Scotty’s Variety for 10 years. She was a faith-based woman, and active member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Holyoke MA. She loved to cook, attend bible studies, church fellowship, writing short stories, music, singing and composing songs and built a life with her husband offering years of devoted care to many foster children. Nancy greatly enjoyed annual family vacations in Florida. She engaged with the people around her, maintained contacts and made lifelong friends in this manner. She dedicated her life to praying for and supporting others. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a treasure to her. She was very loved and will be greatly missed by the many people she touched in her life.

Nancy is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Norman S. Scott, her children, Robert Pleau of Rapid City, SD, Linda Sue Allen of Westfield, Richard “Rusty” Pleau of Westfield, Susan Peck and her husband David of Somers, CT, Jean Genereux and her husband Bob of Westfield, and Jenny and Chris Fleming of Chelmsford, MA. Nauney will be forever cherished by her 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her daughter Elizabeth and her siblings Franny, Connie, Neil, Mick, Tom, Angie, Al, George, and Ann. Three other siblings died as young children. She is the last of her immediate family.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023 with visitation from 9:30-10:30 AM with a Funeral Service at 10:30 AM at Firtion Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Southampton Rd., Westfield. Visiting hours will also be held on Wednesday, April 12th from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
