SOUTHWICK – Department of Public Works Director Jeffrey Neece will leave his post as of May 31.
Neece resigned in a letter dated May 10 and stated it was “a personal decision based on conditions and circumstances of my employment with Southwick.”
The resignation was a surprise to some members of the Board of Selectmen who unanimously accepted his resignation this week.
“This came as a surprise,” said Chairman Arthur Pinell. “He has been involved in many projects over the years and I am sorry to see him go.”
Selectwoman Tracy Cesan thanked Neece for his “professional dedication” to the job, while Selectman Russell Fox said “I certainly wish him well in whatever he wishes to do.”
Neece will remain at the helm of the DPW, which is also in need of an assistant with the resignation of Michael Demko.
“During the period between the date of this notification and the effective date of my resignation I will continue to perform my duties effectively and efficiently,” said Neece.
Neece said leaving the position has not been easy.
“This has been a difficult decision for me,” he said. “I leave with mixed feelings of success and loss, but also with the knowledge that through my time in Southwick I have completed many worthwhile projects and provided effective services for the community.”
Newly elected selectman Joseph Deedy said this week replacing Neece and Demko are top priorities moving forward.
