Agway dealer to occupy former Kelly’s Home & Garden space
WESTFIELD- The building formerly occupied by Kelly’s Home and Garden at 81 Springfield Road will soon be occupied by a Smithland Garden and Pet Supply.
Nabil Hannoush, owner of the property, said that Smithland, like Kelly’s, is another Agway Dealer Company. Smithland Garden and Pet Supply will be in some ways similar to Kelly’s but Hannoush said it is likely to have more pet products than before.
The new store is expected to open up in the Spring. In January they will be holding a hiring campaign where they intend to hire 25 people for the new store.
“We are very excited to be bringing out product offering and customer-centric shopping experience to the Westfield market at an address that has served Westfieldians for decades,” said John Atkins, the CEO of CT Gardens LLC., the parent company of Smithland Garden and Pet Supply.
Hannoush said that he had a letter of intent from Cumberland Farms already when Smithland approached him with their offer to occupy the space. Cumberland Farms had wanted to build a large store on the property.
“They had a letter of intent signed but it didn’t really fit my vision of having a family and wellness place,” said Hannoush, “I want it to be about wellness and family and entertainment.”
Kelly’s Home and Garden operated until Dec. 26 of last year, when they closed their doors for the last time.
Hannoush said that because the new store will be selling a lot of the same types of products, the existing building will likely remain, though it will be renovated.
