Norma Yourous

SOUTHWICK: Norma (Battistoni) Yourous, 96, of Southwick, MA beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, wife of the late John H. Yourous, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and friend, Sharon Drenen, into the arms of her precious Lord on February 12, 2015.  She was born in Westfield, MA on February 22, 1918 to the late Thomas and Domenica (Nascembeni) Battistoni of Italy. Norma loved her catholic faith and was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lake in Southwick. She shared that faith with her kindergarten class by teaching them about Jesus through prayer and song. She appeared on the show “Real to Reel” telling about her accomplishments in her parish community. An article was also written about her in the “Catholic Mirror”. In 1992 she received the Bishops Award and in 1995 the Southwick Grange Citizen of the Year Award. Norma was a Girl Scout leader for over 50 years, she worked with many girls, including her own daughters and granddaughter. She taught them music, crafts and especially how to serve their community. Norma was a Southwick business woman for nearly 70 years owning and running the Stateline Station. She will be missed by many, including her bible study class, her prayer group, but mostly her children, Marianne Anderzak and her husband Tom of Dearborn, MI, Bette Yourous-Blanchard of Southwick, MA, Barbara Bowen of Granby, CT, Lucille del Campo and her husband Richard of Granby, CT, Joanne Yourous and Rosemary Swochak of Southwick, MA, Jack Yourous of Southwick, MA; daughter-in-law, Karen Yourous of Southwick, MA. Besides her husband John, she was predeceased by her son, Thomas Yourous; grandson, Jared Yourous; a brother, Vincent Battistoni; a sister, Lucy (Battistoni) Ciaschini. She also leaves her grandchildren, Lorianna Hutchins, Justin Yourous, Angela Vanarcik, Thomas Anderzak, Christine Baran, Michelle Bowen, Erik Bowen, Rebecca Bowen, Nik Bowen, Roxanne Bowen, John Bowen, Aaron del Campo, Jake del Campo, Luke del Campo, Rob Yourous; great grandchildren, Travis Hutchins, Damon Hutchins, Nathan Vanarcik, Rachel Vanarcik, Antonia Anderzak, Andrew Baran, Terese Baran, Joseph Bowen, Alex Bohaker, Blaise Bohaker, Brady Bowen, Natalie del Campo, Samuel del Campo, Victoria del Campo. Her family will receive friends Friday, February 20, 2015 from 5-8 PM at Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby, CT. Family and friends may gather Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 9 AM at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 AM, at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Southwick, MA. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery, Tariffville, CT in the spring.
