Northampton tips WHS, 50-47

WESTFIELD – Westfield played its collective hearts out in a boys’ basketball game Tuesday night, but in the end suffered a heartbreaking loss.
“It was your typical Westfield-Northampton right down to the wire,” Westfield coach Bill Daley said of the Bombers’ 50-47 loss to the Blue Devils.
Westfield trailed by 12 points at the halftime break, 34-22, but rallied to cut the deficit to two by the third quarter, 39-37. The Bombers nearly overtook Northampton in the fourth quarter, but Blue Devil Jake Ross hit a 3-pointer to secure the victory.
“We just couldn’t get over the hump,” coach Bill Daley said. “We played our hearts out in the second half. We played the way we need to play. We’re much, much better than we’ve been playing.”
Devin Wells (17 points) and D.J. Florek (10) led Westfield, who at 7-8 overall, must now win three of its last five games.
