WESTFIELD – Ocean State Job Lot stores nationwide are giving away fabric for masks in its “Mask Fabric for Free” campaign.
Ocean State Job Lot has stores in Westfield at 231 East Main St. (413-568-1851) and in Southwick at 201 College HIghway (413-569-9560). Temporary hours are Monday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with senior hours (60+) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 10 a.m.
The corporate announcement on the campaign stated: “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending that everyone should wear a cloth face mask when out in public, as masks may help reduce the chance of spreading COVID-19. They are also telling us that surgical and N95 masks should be prioritized for healthcare workers to protect themselves. We want to help customers who want to make their own masks, so we are launching our Mask Fabric For Free* campaign.”
A display is set up in each of the stores with the fabric for the masks. Most of the fabric is a high-quality cotton/polyester blend, with two sizes available, a cloth napkin for one mask, and a tablecloth for multiple masks.
Customers are limited to five units of fabric to give as many people as possible the opportunity to participate.
If the fabric is for an organization making masks to donate to those in need, speak to a store associate and they will try to accommodate a larger order.
Customers seeking the fabric are asked to go through the checkout line as they would to make a purchase. The fabric will ring through the point of sale for one cent. This allows the store to track the amount of fabric they are giving away. Customers will not be charged for the fabric.
The company says they have enough fabric for one million masks, adding that some stores are giving away fabric very quickly, and they are working to replenish stores as they run low.
Ocean State Job Lot has also posted directions on sewing masks on the campaign page at www.oceanstatejoblot.com/COVID-19-mask-fabric-for-free.
