One-vehicle accident shut down East Mountain Road Sunday morning

WESTFIELD—A one-vehicle accident on East Mountain Road shut down a portion of the road for several hours early Sunday morning and sent one person to the hospital.

According to Westfield Police, a one-vehicle accident on East Mountain Road was reported at 1:47 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 17. The vehicle had reportedly struck a utility pole and “snapped” the pole, according to the police log, with wires on the ground.

The road was shut down following the accident from Springfield Road to Springfield Hill Road according to the log. The road was shut down for several hours.

The only occupant of the vehicle was the operator and was reported injured. They were transported to Baystate Noble Hospital via Westfield Fire ambulance and personnel.

The accident is at least the second accident to happen on East Mountain Road over the past several days that shut down portions of East Mountain Road. On Thursday morning, a two-vehicle accident resulted in two people being injured, including one who was listed in critical condition as of Friday afternoon at Baystate Medical Center.
