Technical Sergeant Brian Wiechec, a Westfield native, is finishing up his third tour to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Currently stationed at Kandahar Air Field, TSgt Wiechec is assigned to the 335th Signal Command as a Project Engineer. His duties include engineering, designing, and installing various communications platforms that deliver network access to units assigned to the southern region of Afghanistan. TSgt Wiechec is out of the 272nd Engineering and Installation Squadron, Houston TX . Sergeant Wiechec will be marking his ten year anniversary in the Air Force this coming June, and is looking forward to spending time with his wife Cindy upon his return. On previous deployments Sgt Wiechec was an avionics specialist assigned to the Air Force Special Operations Command, Hurlburt Field, FL in support of missions conducted with MC130E, and MC130H aircraft.
Sergeant Wiechec says that the education he received at Westfield Vocational Technical High School provided him the principles and building blocks that allowed to him to be the engineer that he is today, and emphasized the importance of having a trade school program available so that students have the opportunity to learn a trade in competitive fields. Sergeant Wiechec graduated from WVTHS in 2002.
Sergeant Wiechec says that to pass the time during the deployment he enjoys working out at the base gym, and communicating with his family online.
