SOUTHWICK – The Our Community Food Pantry is hosting a clothing drive from March 25 until April 6 in partnership with Savers in West Springfield.
According to Sally Munson, the Director of the Our Community Food Pantry, Saver’s will give the pantry money for the donations they give them. Munson and her volunteers will use the money to buy more groceries for the pantry and their clients who need food on a daily basis.
This is the third time that the Our Community Food Pantry has hosted this event and Munson has set a goal of raising $500 from the clothing drive.
“We figure if we can stuff the van, we can raise $500,” said Munson.
Our Community Food Pantry is seeking clothes, shoes, towels, sheets, and other similar accessories that will be brought to Savers who will then sell the items returning the money to the Our Community Food Pantry.
People representing the food pantry are grateful for the support they’ve received from the community the past two years the clothing drive has occurred.
“Every time, it gets just a little bit bigger,” said Meg Raggio, Program Coordinator for the Our Community Food Pantry. “I think more people are aware of it and we’re very appreciative with what everyone has done.”
If anyone would like to donate items for the clothing drive, they can drop them off at the Our Community Food Pantry from March 25 until April 6. The pantry is open on Monday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 10 a.m. until Noon, and on Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
A non-profit organization, the Our Community Food Pantry serves Southwick, Granville, and Tolland and gives people food on a monthly basis. In order for someone to be eligible to receive food from the Our Community Food Pantry, they’re required to have an identification that proves they reside in one of the three towns, proof of income, and a date of birth for all members of the household.
