Owls mourn Arra’s passing

WESTFIELD – Westfield State University mourns the passing of Ray Arra ’65, the Owls retired baseball coach and a 1997 Westfield State University Hall of Fame inductee.
Arra retired from coaching after the 2013 season as the winningest head coach in Owls baseball history, leading Westfield to NCAA Tournament appearances in 2007, 2009 and 2010.

The Owls learned of coach Arra’s passing on Thursday, May 17, hours before the Owls’ baseball team took the field at Falcon Park in Auburn, N.Y., the same site coach Arra led the resurgent Westfield State baseball program to the NCAA regionals in 2007, the first tournament bid in 23 years.

Visiting hours are scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 20 at Firtion Adams Funeral Home at 76 Broad St. in Westfield, with the service to follow at 4:00 p.m.
