Owls’ women’s soccer rolls, 8-0

WESTFIELD Mass. – The Westfield State University women’s soccer team remained unbeaten as it cruised to an 8-0 victory over Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Saturday.
The Owls, ranked fifth in New England Division III, boosted their record to 6-0-1 after winning their conference opener. Mass. Maritime is 0-4.
Eight players scored goals for the Owls, who jumped out to a 7-0 halftime lead. Westfield opened the scoring in the 14th minute on Colleen Bazinet’s header off a corner kick by Leann Rivard.
The Owls then scored four goals in a seven-minute span midway through the first stanza. Scoring were freshman Ashley Bovat, of Westfield, senior Brittanie McGregor, freshman Marisa Sprague and senior Kayley Miller.
Rounding out Westfield’s scoring were freshman, sophomore Emily Malone and freshman Emily Carroll.
Westfield outshot Mass. Maritime, 29-0. Mass. Maritime goalie Katie Levesque registered 11 saves.
