Patricia A. Scanlon

WESTFIELD – Patricia A. Scanlon, 84, (1938-2023) passed away peacefully at home on March 19, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born in Springfield, MA to the late Henry and Dorothy (Hodge) Sarrette. She was a graduate of American International College in Springfield where she received an associate degree. She worked in the medical field in administration management. She committed to helping her husband, Attorney William J. Scanlon, for two weeks as his legal administrative assistant but stayed with him for 32 years until the practice closed. Her most important job was always being “mom.” Patricia has been a communicant of St. Mary’s parish since she arrived in Westfield in 1968. She made costumes for the Little Theater Group through the Westfield Women’s Club and volunteered at the Community Table in Westfield. She was an auxiliary member of the Sons of Erin in Westfield, becoming co-chair of the Colleen Committee and worked on the float committee for many years. She was a Sons of Erin Irish Women of the Year. Patricia was an avid gardener, enjoyed sewing making Irish dancing costumes and dresses for her daughters for almost any occasion, she welcomed you into her home and enjoyed cooking and sharing meals with her family and friends, she was an avid reader, and enjoyed chair Yoga at the Senior Center.

Patricia was predeceased by her beloved husband of 51 years, Atty. William J. Scanlon on February 18, 2012.

She is survived by her loving children, Robin A. Dorgan and her husband Thomas of Virginia Beach, VA; Andrea L. Carey and her husband Christian of Stowe, VT, and Patrick M. Scanlon and his wife Debra Kane of Westfield; her grandchildren, Avery and Kylie Sheehan; great-grandson, Liam Austin; her nephew, James Scanlon (Kathleen) of Nokomis Florida; nieces, Patricia Holland of Sarasota, Florida, Teresa Hojnoski (Eric) of Enfield, CT; her great-nieces and nephews Michael, Kristine, Marie, Kimberlee, Timothy, Mary; and her beloved grand doggies.

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Beacon Hospice Care (Paige, Sharon, Juan, Kerry, Alisha) for their unwavering care and support.

In celebration of her life, the funeral will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023, at 9AM from the Firtion Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad St., Westfield, MA 01085 followed by a Mass at 10AM in St. Mary’s Church, Bartlett St., Westfield, MA. The burial will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Tinkham Rd. Springfield. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023, from 4-6PM.
