WESTFIELD – Paul Michael Kvitek (1945 – 2022), husband of 54 years to Pamela Frances Kvitek (née Ouellette), of Westfield, Massachusetts, passed away suddenly on September 6, 2022 due to complications from pneumonia. Paul was born in April 1945 in Westfield as the youngest child of Mary and Harold Kvitek. After graduating from Westfield Trade School in 1963, he became a machinist and later owned his own business for over 35 years before happily transitioning to work for the City of Westfield’s Water Department for twelve years prior to retiring. He and Pamela raised their children in Blandford, MA, where they lived for over 35 years, and where Paul served as a Water Commissioner to the town. He was a lifelong sports fan—from basketball to stock car racing to golf to hunting—and loved country western music, antiques, fixing things around the house, the Easthampton Beagle Club, and spending weekends with his family at the family’s cottage on Big Pond in Otis. He is grateful to his many friends over the years, especially Francis Case and Jerry Gilbert; a former colleague, Chee Hui; as well as Dr. Armand Aliotta for his many years of care and support. Parkinson’s failed to diminish his resolve or his positive outlook on life over the course of the approximately twenty years he contended with the disease.
In addition to being a loyal son and husband, Paul was the proud and devoted father of two daughters and two grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Pamela; his daughter Kelly Kvitek and her husband Dr. Timothy Gearin, Jr., of Holyoke, MA; his daughter Kathy Unlu, her husband Mustafa Unlu, and their two children, ages 12 and 7 of Takoma Park, MD; as well as his siblings Harold Kvitek of South Newfane, VT and Marie Kolodziej of Westfield, MA, in addition to many nieces and nephews.
Donations in his memory in lieu of flowers and a service may be made to the Westfield Council on Aging for its Senior Center via check payable to the “Westfield Revolving Gift Fund,” 45 Noble Street, Westfield, MA, 01085.
