Councilor’s absences explained

ROBERT PAUL

WESTFIELD – Some residents may have noticed the absence of Councilor Robert Paul at a few City Council meetings, but Paul reassured constituents that he is working hard for them.
Paul, whose work includes global travel, has missed three out of 10 meetings since he was sworn-in this past January. Paul said two of them were planned before he took his oath.
“I had two absences because of my kids’ vacation and I told the Council about them ahead of time,” said Paul.
The third was out of his control.
“I missed the third because of a strike in Europe,” said Paul, who was stuck at a European airport.
City Councilor Christopher Keefe, chairman of the Finance Committee, of which Paul is a member, said Paul has always been “diligent” about giving advance notice of trips.
“He travels out of state and out of country for business,” said Keefe. “And we try to work our meetings around it – when he is there he is a very active participant.”
Keefe said Paul is on top of the issues and serves the residents of Ward 5.
Paul missed two City Council meetings in April and one in early May according to the City Clerk’s Office.
