WESTFIELD – Peter J. Lingaitis, 85, passed away Thursday July 25, 2013 in Noble Hospital. Born and raised in Westfield, Peter attended local schools and was a graduate of the Westfield Trade School.
After high school, Peter joined the U.S. Navy and was a WWII Veteran. He later was employed by the former Osley and Whitney Manufacturing Company where he worked for over 40 years until their closing. He went on to assist his son Michael at Huffy Service First for a few years. Peter was a lifelong member of St Casimir’s Church, now St. Peter and St. Casimir’s Church, where he was an alter boy as a child and a member of the choir. Peter was a former member of St Casimir’s Club and current member of the American Legion Post 124. He was an avid gardener, bird watcher, fisherman and overall lover of nature. He enjoyed all sports with a special love for hockey. He attended many hockey games at the Coliseum in West Springfield and later to the Springfield Civic Center.
He leaves his beloved wife of 62 years, Dolores M (Walkowski); his loving children, Michael P Lingaitis of Westfield and Karen E. Spaid and her husband John of Zion Crossroads, VA, along with many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, July 31 at 10:00 a.m. at the Robert E Cusack Funeral Home, 94 Main Street (Route 20), Westfield. A calling hour will precede the service from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, also in Westfield.
