Peter P. Masaitis

WESTFIELD – Peter P. Masaitis, 88, lifelong Westfield resident passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at the Holyoke Soldier’s Home. Born & educated in Westfield, Peter was the son of the late Kazimer & Anna (Atkociatis) Masaitis, and was a graduate of the Westfield Vocational High School.
Peter was a mail carrier for the United States Post Office prior to his retirement, and an U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He began his military service in May, 1943 and was an orderly serving field hospital throughout Europe, including France, Germany, and Belgium. He saw combatants from ALL the major battles in Europe. After the war, Pete remained in Germany to assist with the rebuilding of machinery and the economy. He was discharged on August 1948, obtaining the rank of Corporal.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews, Gary Masaitis, Lori Donicz, Jayna Shute, Lisa Fairhurst, Ann Marie Schwein, & Christina Boccaccio, and many great nieces & nephews.
Besides his parents. Pete was predeceased by his sister, Valeria Siminowicz; and his brothers, Edward, Benedict and Anthony Masaitis.
Family & friends are invited to attend a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013 in St. John the Evangelist Church, 823 Main Street, Agawam, MA. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Colonial-Forastiere Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements,
