Emergency Response and Crime Report

10:21 a.m.: accident, Loomis Street Bridge, a patrol supervisor reports he discovered that both sides of the bridge and its supporting structure were damaged by an apparent vehicle impact, the vehicle had left the area;
3:01 p.m.: animal complaint, Meadow Street at Union Avenue, the director of animal control operations reports he took custody of a stray black and white Chihuahua dog and transported it to the municipal animal shelter;
3:04 p.m.: fire, Franklin Street, multiple callers report a structure fire, see story in the Wednesday edition of The Westfield News;
5:00 p.m.: suspicious activity, Meadow Street, a caller from a Main Street fast food restaurant reports that a person who had been giving employees a hard time left in a described vehicle and was waving a handgun out the window, the responding officer reports the suspect vehicle was found at its registered address and the report was found to be credible, a criminal complaint for assault with a dangerous weapon was filed;
7:21 p.m.: document service, Oak Avenue, an officer reports an abuse prevention order was served and, pursuant to the terms of the order, the defendant surrendered his license to carry firearms and his guns;
10:42 p.m.: suspicious activity, East Main Street, a caller reports seeing what she believed to be a narcotics transaction, the responding officer reports two youths were found who were preparing to smoke a small amount of marijuana, the youths were released to the custody of their parents and the marijuana was seized and destroyed.
