2:45 p.m.: Burglary/breaking and entering, walk-in. Someone came to police and reported that jewelry and a computer were reportedly stolen from an address on Orange Street. Police reported that entry may have been made through an open door. Police are investigating.

2:52 p.m.: Disturbance, Mechanic Street. Police received a report from a tenant in an apartment that another neighbor allegedly had someone go to the tenant’s apartment and threaten them in relation to a package that the neighbor said was stolen. The neighbor had reportedly contacted police previously for advice on possible stolen packages but did not file a report. Police spoke with the parties involved and are investigating the possibility of the stolen packages.

10:52 p.m.: Motor vehicle violation and arrest, Main Street and Meadow Street. Police reported that they witnessed a vehicle allegedly following another too closely, “slammed on brakes” at a red light, then reportedly drove above the speed limit. Police stopped the vehicle and found the operator, Rafael Cruz, Jr., 37, of Westfield, to allegedly had an odor of alcohol, blood-shot eyes and slurred speech. Police reported Cruz failed field sobriety tests and was arrested, charged with operating under the influence of liquor, following too close, speeding, reckless endangerment of a motor vehicle and marked lanes violation.
