Emergency response and crime report

8:20 a.m.: fire, Root Road, a caller reports smoke in her basement, dual response dispatched, the responding firefighters report no smoke was showing upon their arrival and the resident said that there was smoke but no fire in the cellar, the firefighters report steam and hot water were found in the cellar where a boiler had malfunctioned;
10:10 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Union Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and it was towed to the police impound yard;
10:14 a.m.: animal complaint, Colonial Pine Acres, 50 Southampton Road, an animal control officer reports that a resident moved out and left a cat in the apartment, the ACO reports the cat was transported to the municipal animal shelter;
11:00 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Elm Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and it was towed from the roadway;
12:37 p.m.: assist other agency, Union Street, the code enforcement officer reports that a representative of the building department requested assistance at an address were three unregistered vehicles were stored, the officer reports the cars were found to belong to a resident who is hospitalized, the property owner was advised that the vehicles must be removed within 30 days;
1:33 p.m.: fire, East Main Street, a caller reports smoke is showing beneath a vehicle parked at the Westfield Shops, dual response dispatched, the responding fire captain reports that the smoke had been coming from smoldering mulch which has been extinguished;
1:43 p.m.: assist other agency, Wyben Road, the code enforcement officer reports that representatives of the building and conservation departments requested assistance with an inspection, the officer reports that one unregistered vehicle was found and he stood by as various wetland violations were documented;
1:51 p.m.: larceny, Springfield Road, a caller from a Springfield Road department store reports two men stole two air conditioners valued at $329 each, the responding officer reports an employee said that the two men walked into the store and each picked up an air conditioner from a display and carried them out to a vehicle, registration number of the vehicle the men left in was recorded and security video will be reviewed;
4:50 p.m.: breaking and entering, Oakdale Avenue, a caller reports a window screen was broken and property was stolen, the responding officer reports the caller said that a screen on a second floor window was found to have been compromised to gain access and some of his mother’s jewelry was stolen, the officer reports the victim will provide an inventory of the missing jewelry;
6:36 p.m.: illegal dumping, Ponders Hollow Road, a caller reports illegal dumping in the area of the tin bridge, the responding officer reports a television had been discarded;
9:14 p.m.: breaking and entering, Conner Avenue, a caller reports persons with flashlights can be seen in a condemned house, the responding officer reports that the house is boarded up but a door was found to have been forced open, the officer reports his inspection of the house revealed two persons hiding in a bedroom, Kristen M. Halla, 23, of 106 Feeding Hills Road, and Steven M. Maynard, 31, of 41 Pochassic St., were each arrested for breaking and entering a building in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony and for trespass;
11:47 p.m.: suspicious person, Elm Street, a caller reports a person is entering a building via window, the responding officer reports he found a male party who was authorized to be in the building and said that he had lost his key and therefore entered via a window, the officer reports that after the man searched further he found that the key was suspended around his neck.
