Major incident and crime report
WESTFIELD
Wednesday, Aug 15. 2012
11:14 a.m.: medical emergency, Jen-Coat Inc., 132 North Elm St., caller reports a female is down at that location, officer requesting paramedics respond, female transported to Noble Hospital for assistance and treatment;
11:36 a.m.: breaking and entering a motor vehicle larceny, 103 Park River Drive, caller reports that her 2001 Audi was entered and items taken including a laptop computer and two global positioning system devices;
12:35 p.m.: suspicious activity, Springfield Road new Walmart store, multiple callers report male subject in the middle of the roadway attempting to panhandle, officer reports male subject was located and identified, male was advised that the median in the center of a four-lane highway was not an appropriate place to be panhandling, he was sent on his way;
4:52 p.m.: disturbance, Discount Liquors, 95 Main Street, clerk requesting an officer to help deal with two subjects who are irate because they were denied services due to the lack of proper identification, officer reports speaking with the two subjects who were advised to leave the area and cease creating a disturbance, subjects complied;
5:13 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, vehicle tow, Southwick Road, officer requesting a tow for a vehicle because registration revoked due to lack of insurance, officer seized the registration plates;
6:10 p.m.: fire, Russellville Road, caller reports electrical wires in front of residence burning, Fire Department and Westfield Gas & Electric emergency response team dispatched, officer reports a branch had fallen onto the power line tripping a circuit breaker, firefighters will remain on scene with WG&E team;
6:19 p.m.: suspicious activity, area of Meadow and Mechanic streets intersection, caller reports hearing a loud bang, officer reports two electrical transformers blown, Westfield Gas & Electric Department notified;
6:36 p.m.: downed lines, Buck Pond Road, caller reports power lines, attached to a transformer, down across roadway, Westfield Gas & Electric Department notified, officer reports wires were hanging low across the road and are a traffic hazard, WG&E arrived at the scene and determined that it was their line, will remove hazard and repair line;
8:02 p.m.: officer wanted, vandalism, Union Street, caller reports observing youths hit her motor vehicle and that there is damage to the hood, officer reports damage is not visible, but could feel a slight dent, officer located the youths, ages 10, 12 and 16, who denied damaging the vehicle, information taken;
9:19 p.m.: medical emergency, protective custody, TD Bank, 60 Main St., caller reports a male party down and out in parking lot, officer and Fire Department ambulance dispatched, officer reports 22-year-old male declined to identify himself, officer placed male into protective custody.

Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012
1:40 a.m.: loitering, 115 Elm Street, area of Central Baptist Church, officer reports a group of 10 to 15 youths gathered, three subjects were identified and the group given a verbal warning to disperse;
4:23 a.m.: breaking and entering a motor vehicle, larceny, Parker Avenue, caller reports a lap-top computer was taken from passenger seat, messenger-door window left ajar;
10:14 a.m.: suspicious activity, 303 East Main St., area of Price-Rite supermarket, motorist reports that another vehicle followed his vehicle from West Springfield into the Westfield Shops parking lot, motorist reports that his vehicle was entered last week and personal property taken, officer reports locating the suspect vehicle which was unoccupied at the time and suspects it may belong to a private investigator, motorist informed of findings;
10:28 a.m.: property found, Taylor Avenue, caller reports finding a pink and purple girl’s back pack on the embankment, officer reports back pack brought to station, see following entry;
10:57 a.m.: property found, Taylor Avenue, caller reports finding a pink and purple back pack containing infant clothing which still has tags from the “R Us” store attached, officer wrote a report documenting the items;
11:41 a.m.: larceny, Holiday Inn Express & Suites, 39 Southampton Road, caller reports that quarters were removed from the bin of a coin-operated washing machine, machine contained about $100 in quarters, caller identified the suspect as a male friend of a former female employee who did not return key to coin bin, investigation referred to the detective bureau;
3:49 p.m.: domestic disturbance, arrest, 67 Orange St., caller reports that her mother grabbed the caller and left bruises, officer reports that when he arrived at the scene the mother was standing outside near the sidewalk, officer began to speak to the mother when the daughter, the caller, burst out of the residence and started to swear at her mother and the officer, then threatened to assault her mother, Leslie A. Buschmann, 40, of that address taken into custody on charges of disorderly conduct and violation of a 209-A court protective order;
4:27 p.m.: breaking and entering, 186 Main St., citizen came to station to report that her apartment may have been entered while she was out based on the fact that the deadbolt, to which she does not have a key and never uses, was set, citizen states no property appears to be missing and does not want a formal complaint, officer reports citizen had taken measures to make her residence more secure and was advised to contact the department if another situation arose in the future;
5:47 p.m.: domestic disturbance, 8 Connor Avenue, caller reports that his brother punched him in the head and fled the scene, officer reports observing a bump on the rear of the reporting party’s head, reporting party did not wish to pursue the issue further, see 6:18 p.m. entry;
5:49 p.m.: larceny of a bicycle, Morris Street, caller reports a past theft of a bicycle which he located and would like an officer to speak with the person currently in possession of the property, officer reports that a restitution agreement was worked out and that the reporting party, who does not want the bicycle back, will seek a criminal complaint if the restitution is not paid;
6:18 p.m.: domestic assault, the reporting party from the 5:47 p.m. entry is now seeking to press charges for domestic assault and battery and is providing more information to support that request, officer reports criminal complaint filed against the reporting party’s brother for assault and battery in a domestic relationship;
6:18 p.m.: parking complaint, Crown Street, caller reports a vehicle is parked on the sidewalk requiring pedestrians to go into the street, officer reports a 1994 Oldsmobile is parked in a driveway at 29 Crown Street and is blocking the entire sidewalk, officer attempted to speak with residents of that address but there was no response, parking citation issued;
6:36 p.m.: traffic complaint, caller reports a sink hole at the intersection of Meadow and Mechanic streets, patrol officer had previously report that problem and the Department of Public Works has been notified;
8:45 p.m.: vandalism, Cabot Road, citizen reports mailbox damaged several times in recent months and that another resident saw a group of four youths near his mailbox, but that they fled when confronted, caller advised to contact the department if the youths are observed in the area again.

12:52 a.m.: trespassing, Central Baptist Church, 115 Elm Street, officer reports two homeless individuals located and informed that they were no loner welcomed at that location, community police officer for that area notified and will hand serve trespass notices to those subjects for that location and St. John’s Lutheran Church on Broad Street;
1:31 a.m.: ordinance violation, incapacitated person, Arnold Street, officer observed a subject urinating on the sidewalk, ordinance violation citation issues;
3:03 a.m.: suspicious activity, Walmart parking lot, 141 Springfield Road, caller reports a female walking through the lot and attempting to enter employee vehicles, officer reports female was located and identified, had not made entry into any vehicles and emptied her pockets are the request of the officer who observed nothing which appear to have been taken from a vehicle, female sent on here way;
