Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012
12:17 a.m.: fire, Franklin Street, a caller reports that the residents of an address to which firefighters responded earlier have rekindled their fire, the responding officer reports the resident extinguished the fire and agreed to keep the noise down;
9:45 a.m.; larceny, Feeding Hill Road, a Springfield resident came to the station to report his laptop was stolen, the responding officer reports the man said that he had been working at a facility on Aug. 3 and, while loading his truck after completing the job, inadvertently left a bag containing his laptop computer in the parking lot, the man said that he then went on vacation and thus did not immediately realize his mistake, the man said that he called the facility and was told that the computer had not been turned over to staff members;
10:23 a.m.: animal complaint, Westfield Fairgrounds, Russellville Road, an officer reports a stray Labrador retriever and pit bull mix dog is at the fairgrounds, a responding animal control officer reports the dog was transported to the Westfield Animal Shelter;
11:14 a.m.: assist citizen, Montgomery Street, a caller reports he has inadvertently locked his two-year-old grandchild in his vehicle, the responding firefighters report entry was made;
4:28 p.m.: vandalism, Reservoir Avenue, a caller reports vandalism to his vehicle, the responding officer reports the caller showed him a deep gouge in the paint of the caller’s 2013 Ford Explorer on both sides of the vehicle and across the hood, the caller and his wife said that the damage may have been done in Westfield but could have been inflicted the night before in Wrentham where they were visiting and left after dark;
4:56 p.m.: larceny, Orange Street, a caller reports her son’s scooter was stolen, the responding officer reports the 12-year-old boy said that he left his scooter outside a North Elm Street store while he was helping to carry items into the store and when he returned about a half hour later he found the scooter gone, the victim identified a suspect and the officer made inquiries at the skate park to find that although the suspect was not there he had been seen with a scooter matching the description of the stolen property;
6:31 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Meadow Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired, the vehicle was towed;
10:08 p.m.: disturbance, Elm Street, a caller reports youths in the area appear to be preparing to fight, the officer reports he had been on patrol and saw a group of youths scatter when they saw his cruiser but he had not seen them engaged in any prohibited activity, the officer reports he subsequently saw two known youths under the railroad overpass and advised them to move along, the officer reports he next saw them among a group of youths at a nearby gas station and when he dispersed that group he saw the same two youths lurking in the vestibule of a nearby apartment building, the two young men were again moved along but paused further south on Elm Street and he again urged them to leave the area, a subsequent caller reported he and his brother were punched and are bleeding, the responding officer reports that two boys said they had been punched and identified their assailants as the two young men the officer had previously encountered, the youths declined medical assistance and were advised they could seek a criminal complaint at Westfield District Court, the father of the boys called about an hour later to also report the assault, the officer reports the victim then said that he had greeted his assailant who punched his head, the boy’s step-brother said that when he objected the first suspect’s companion then struck him, criminal complaints for assault and battery were filed against each suspect;

12:04 a.m.: incapacitated person, Phillip Avenue, a caller reports a 17-year-old family member is intoxicated and has left the residence, the responding officer reports the residents said that a girl who had been returned home by police earlier has left on foot, the girl’s family said that she was too drunk from them to cope with, the officer reports the girl was found on Southwick Road and was obviously highly intoxicated, the girl said that she did not want to return home and was going to sleep at a friend’s residence, the young woman was deemed to be too intoxicated to care for herself and was placed in protective custody;
12:11 a.m.: fire, Shepard Street, a caller reports three or four persons are sitting around a campfire, the responding officer reports he found a family quietly sitting around a small enclosed fire, the family members agreed to extinguish the fire;
2:01 a.m.: arrest, Park Square Townhouse, 140 Union St., officer were advised of a probation warrant and two officers were dispatched to attempt to serve the warrant, the officer reports the subject was found at her home address, Kimberly L. McCullough, 36, of 140 Union St., was arrested on the warrant without incident;
6:36 a.m.; unwanted guest, Chapel Street, a caller reports a homeless man is sleeping in his garage and he would like him removed, the responding officer reports the trespasser was sent on his way;
6:48 a.m.: larceny, Robinson Drive, a caller reports her son’s off-road motorcycle was stolen, the responding officer reports the caller’s son said that he and his brother had taken the dirt bike to a wooded area near their home where they were camping out and it was stolen overnight while they were sleeping, the caller called again later in the day to report that her son had subsequently found the motorcycle in a different part of the woods;
7:24 a.m.: accident, Elm Street at Orange Street, an officer reports a tractor trailer unit struck a construction worker, the officer reports a witness said that the truck mounted the curb and struck the worker running over his leg, the worker said he had his back to traffic while he was working, the trucker said that he was unaware his vehicle had hopped the curb and struck the laborer, the man was transported to Noble Hospital where he was treated and released;
10:20 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Montgomery Road, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating at high rate of speed and used radar to determine the vehicle was traveling at 50 mph in a 35 mph zone, the vehicle was stopped and a routine check revealed that the operator was the subject of an outstanding warrant, Justin D. Beaumier, 39, of 9 Sackett St., was arrested on the warrant;
10:28 a.m.: assault , East Bartlett Street, a resident came to the station to reports she was assaulted by a known male party, the responding officer reports that the woman said that her boyfriend had pushed her into her mother’s car causing her to strike her head and then menaced her with a knife, the officer reports he spoke with the male party who denied the assault and said that he is trying to break up with the woman who has threatened to accuse him of assaulting her to cause trouble with his probation officer, the investigating detective reports the case remains under investigation;
10:31 a.m.: fraud, Washington House, 16 Washington St., a resident came to the station to report an attempted scam, the responding officer reports the woman said that she had been contacted by phone and advised she had won a $12,000 lottery, the woman said that she received a check for $1,500 and was instructed to send the man a check for $700 to receive her prize but said that the staff at her bank advised her that the transaction was probably fraudulent and recommended that she contact police, no money was exchanged;
1:08 p.m.: suspicious activity, Lindbergh Boulevard, a caller reports the neighborhood is filling up with smoke because a neighbor has set up a smokehouse and appears to be selling food at the residence, the responding officer reports two persons in the yard had a small contained cooking fire which was barely smoking, the officer reports he did not smell the smoke until he was right next to the fire and when he went to the parking lot of the caller’s building he could not smell any smoke;
3:55 p.m.: identity fraud, Sunset Drive, a resident came to the station to report his social security number has been fraudulently used, the responding officer reports the complainant said that he went to pay a cable for service he had receiving in Hartford and was advised of an account with his social security number but a different name in Taunton was also in arrears, the man was advised to report the matter to police;
4:10 p.m.: larceny, Colony Circle, a resident came to the station to complain that a hearing aid device was stolen from his vehicle, the responding officer reports the man said that his vehicle had been unlocked and parked in his driveway when the hearing aid device was stolen from the center console of the vehicle.
