9:35 a.m.: Accident, Orange Street and Clark Street. Police received a report of a mail truck at the post office that was reportedly backed into by another vehicle. No injuries were reported and the damage was minor.

11:12 a.m.: Motor vehicle violation, Springfield Road. Police initially stopped a vehicle operated by Karel Lewis McDonald, 29, of Westfield, after noticing an expired registration and inspection sticker. Police proceeded to arrest McDonald on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, no inspection/sticker, unregistered motor vehicle and motor vehicle operator refusing to identify self.

1:01 p.m.: Accident, Friendly’s Way. Police received a report of a two-vehicle crash involving a 2012 Kia Sportage and a 2014 GMC Sierra. The damage was minor, no injuries were reported and no tow truck was needed.

3:27 p.m.: Motor vehicle violation and arrest, West Silver Street and Broad Street. Police initially stopped a vehicle that was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane on West Silver Street. Upon stopping the vehicle police suspected that the operator, Cheryl M. Hooper, 48, of Westfield, had been drinking and driving. Police arrested Hooper and charged her with operating under the influence of liquor, marked lanes violation, unregistered motor vehicle, possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

6:32 p.m.: Assault, Lewis Street. Police received a report from an alleged victim of an assault that eight people had reportedly attacked him, one with a BB gun, and then had taken off in a grey SUV. Police were also told that the victim was bleeding from the head. The victim was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield by Westfield Fire paramedics via ambulance, and police had a suspect and were investigating further. No arrests made at the time of the report.

7:27 p.m.: Accident, Springfield Road. Police received a report of an accident involving a vehicle and an unknown object. The vehicle was reportedly being called in for erratic operation from multiple people, beginning in West Springfield and entering Westfield. Eventually, the vehicle crashed and an off-duty Westfield firefighter was on scene assisting. There were no reported injuries at that time. Police and fire from Westfield and West Springfield responded to the scene since it was on the city line. An ambulance was requested and Westfield Fire paramedics treated and transported the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle via ambulance to Baystate Noble Hospital. Police later cited the driver with operating under the influence of alcohol, but no information on the driver was given.
