9:35 a.m.: suspicious person, Washington Street, a caller reports a man who appears to be a vagrant has been coming onto a porch and on that day stole cans, the responding officer reports several hours later he located a homeless man who fit the caller’s description and advised him of the complaint;
9:55 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Union Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle fail to signal a turn and stopped it on Union Street, the officer reports he found that the operator had never been licensed and had registered the vehicle in Virginia despite residing in the Commonwealth, Erito Mendez Rojas, 29, of 31 Bloomfield St., Springfield, was arrested for failure to signal, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and misrepresented registration;
11:38 a.m.: assist citizen, a detective reports officers took custody of a collection of firearms after the owner’s license to carry firearms was revoked, the guns were stored for safekeeping;
12:34 p.m.: well-being check, Colonial Pine Acres, 50 Southampton Road, a caller requests a well-being check for his 8-year-old daughter who did not go to school, the man said that he is afraid his former wife is going to take the girl out of the area, the responding officer reports nobody was home, a subsequent caller said that he went to the apartment in response to a request from the girl’s father and woman fled with the child, the officer returned and the woman and child emerged for a nearby wooded area, the woman said that the caller had pushed her down and the caller said that she punched him, neither party wished to pursue criminal charges;
4:44 p.m.: animal complaint, Southampton Road, the manager of animal control operations reports she found and took custody of a stray green parrot;
8:16 p.m.: assist citizen, Court Street at Washington Street, a caller reports a woman is stepping into traffic in an attempt to hitchhike, the responding officer reports two female parties were provided a courtesy transport to Westfield State University.
