9:2 2 a.m.: larceny, Munger Hlil Road, a resident reports via the online reporting option that Christmas decorations including a large polar bear were stolen and a vehicle struck the victim’s mailbox;
9:23 a.m.: fire, Woodland Condominiums, 324 Russell Road, firefighters responding to an alarm report finding smoke in a first floor unit resulting from a burnt motor on a heating unit, the smoke was ventilated from the condominium;

10:19 a.m.: illegal dumping, Egleston Road, a caller reports a load of trash was dumped at a contractor’s service yard, the responding officer reports employees of the business moved the 15 bags of trash which were found to contain items bearing a name and address, the officer spoke with the resident at the address revealed and the woman said that her daughter had recently taken a load of trash to the dump, the officer spoke with the younger woman who admitted that she had illegally dumped the trash, the woman agreed to return and remove her refuse, the caller said that he does not wish to pursue criminal charges;
11:13 a.m.: breaking and entering, Russell Road, a caller reports that one of his tenants called and asked him to turn on the heat in an apartment which is vacant because the Westfield State University tenants are away for the Christmas break, the responding officer reports the landlord said that he found that the apartment had been entered (apparently via an unlocked door) and the bedroom doors had been kicked in, the landlord said that he does not know what was taken;
12:07 p.m.: document service, Pochassic Road, an officer reports he was able to serve a protective order to a defendant, the officer reports the man surrendered a weapon, ammunition and a FID card;
1:27 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, North Road, a traffic enforcement officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and it was towed to the police impound yard;
2:33 p.m.: larceny, Evergreen Manor, 919 Southampton Road, a resident reports via the online reporting system that he checked with the post office when a package he expected did not arrive and was told that the package had been delivered, the man concluded that it must have been stolen;
7:13 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Springfield Road, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle make multiple unsafe lane changes and he stopped the pickup truck, the officer noted signs of alcohol intoxication and the man failed a field sobriety test, Yuriy V. Zharkikh, 29, of 28 Northwood St., Chicopee, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation;
7:39 p.m.: larceny, Broad Street, a caller from a Broad Street bar reports fraudulent use of a credit card, see story in the Thursday edition of The Westfield News.
