12:43 a.m.: city ordinance violation, Cleveland Avenue, a patrol officer reports a car is parked on the street in violation of the snow emergency parking ban, a citation was issued, similar action was also taken on Harrison Avenue (2), Gold Street, North Elm Street, Lois Street, Hampden Avenue, Hanover Street, East Bartlett Street and Orange Street (2);
7:55 a.m.: parking violation, Shepard Street, a caller reports a parked vehicle which has already been cited is blocking traffic on the snow choked street, the responding officer reports that the trash truck was unable to pass and emergency vehicles would not be able negotiate the street, the vehicle was towed;
8:13 a.m.: larceny, East Silver Street, the manager of an East Silver Street supermarket reports a customer’s purse is missing, the responding officer reports that the woman said that she inadvertently left her purse in her shopping carriage when she unloaded her groceries but realized her mistake before she left the parking lot, the woman said that the purse (which contained credit cards, gift cards, $500 in cash and a cell phone) was missing when she returned, the officer reports that the victim called later to report that her purse had been recovered at the Feeding Hills location of the supermarket chain and was intact except for the cash;
9:09 a.m.: city ordinance violation, Janelle Drive, an officer was dispatched to speak with a resident relative to a sidewalk which has reportedly not been cleared at all after the past few storms, the officer reports the homeowner was advised of the complaint and of the importance of keeping the adjacent fire hydrant clear, the man said that he usually clears the hydrant but has not been able to get to it since the most recent storm, the man agreed to address the issue immediately and the officer told him that he would check the sidewalk and hydrant on Wednesday and issue a citation if warranted;
10:04 a.m.: assist other agency, Roseanna Court, officers were detailed to locate the subject of an involuntary commitment order and transport him to Westfield District Court, a responding officer reports the man was taken into custody but was combative, the man was transported to court by one of the officers and the second officer followed;
10:30 a.m.: city ordinance violation, Union Street, a caller complains that the sidewalk where her children await the school bus has not been cleared all winter, the responding officer reports nobody was at home at the address, the community policing officer for the neighborhood was notified and a message was left asking officers on the next shift to follow up on the complaint after the resident returned home;
12:46 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Hampden Street, a patrol officer reports that a motor vehicle parked on the street in violation of the snow emergency parking ban was found to have expired registration, the car was towed to the police impound yard;
1:55 p.m.: animal complaint, Farlane Drive, an animal control office reports a caller advised her that she heard a cat and believes it is entrapped somewhere, the ACO reports she took custody of the cat and transported it to the municipal animal shelter;
2:56 p.m.: parking violation, Highland School, 34 Western Ave., the school principal requests an officer for traffic congestion in the area the school buses park, a second caller reports a parent is creating an issue, the responding officer reports a staff member told him that when he spoke with a woman operating the vehicle causing the congestion the woman threatened to mace him, the officer identified the woman who had left her running vehicle unattended and she denied threatening to mace the staffer but admitted blocking the area of the main entrance, the woman justified her obstruction by saying “but everyone does it”, the woman was advised against leaving her running vehicle unattended and to comply with staff parking instructions in order to keep everyone safe;
9:04 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, East Main Street, a patrol office reports a traffic stop, the officer reports the car was found to be unregistered and was towed to the police impound yard.
