Emergency response and crime report

1:03 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Springfield Road, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and the car was towed to the police impound yard;
2:48 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, North Elm Street, a patrol officer reports a vehicle seen operating on North Elm Street was seen to park behind a closed business, a routine check revealed that the vehicle’s registration was expired, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard, the officer reports that the operator and her passenger had no way to get back to their home in Holyoke and they were provided a courtesy transport to the Holyoke border where, at the request of city police, a Holyoke officer provided them a courtesy transport to the home;
6:19 a.m.: infrastructure complaint, Russell Road, multiple callers report that the roadway is flooding due to an apparent water line break, the Massachusetts Highway Department was notified, the responding officers report that traffic hitting the growing puddle at normal speeds is causing water to immediately freeze on windshields, officers also report that the water in the roadway is ponding due to the snowbanks on the sides and is icing at each end of the puddle, the road was closed at 7:05 a.m. from Lloyds Hill to Bates Road until the water was cleared;
10:04 a.m.: well-being check, Powder Mill Village, 126 Union St., a caller requests a well-being check on a friend, the man said that when he attempted to call her cellphone a man in Springfield answered and said that he would sell the phone back to her for $30, officers responding to the woman’s home report no answer at the door but dogs could be heard barking inside;
Noon: animal complaint, Westfield Animal Shelter, 178 Apremont Way, a resident brought to the shelter a male cream colored lhasa apso dog found in her back yard;
3:47 p.m.: shoplifting, Springfield Road, a caller from a Springfield Road department store requests an officer for two shoplifters in custody one of whom is a minor, the responding officer reports merchandise valued at $45 was recovered from the shoplifters, a store employ gave them a verbal warning and filed paperwork which will result in a fine, the father of one of the girls was called to the store and took custody of both girls;
6:26 p.m.: larceny, Main Street, a caller reports he lost his wallet at a Main Street supermarket, the responding officer reports the caller said that he realized that he did not have his wallet after a brief stop at the supermarket and returned to look for it, when he spoke with the store manager he learned that his wallet had been found in a shopping cart inside the store by an employee, the man said that he had not used a cart for his errand, the man said that $250 was missing from the wallet but the rest of the contents (including an additional $101 in cash) were intact;
8:30 p.m.: assist citizen, East Main Street, a caller reports she is stranded at the Westfield Shops because the buses are not operating and requests a courtesy transport to Westfield State University, the responding officer reports two WSU students were provided transport back to their campus;
9:52 p.m.: city ordinance violation, Pinehurst Street, a DPW representative requests assistance with two vehicles parked on the street in violation of the snow emergency parking ban, the responding officer reports one vehicle was found to be parked in violation of the ban and a citation was issued, similar complaints were received in the Parker Avenue area where five vehicles were cited.
