Major crime and incident report
Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018
1:20 a.m.: larceny, Charles Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a male party attempting to hide a green street sign under his sweatshirt and stopped to investigate, the officer reports the young man admitted stealing the sign saying “I’m an idiot”, a criminal complaint was filed;
10:29 a.m.: larceny, General Shepard Apartments, 25 Thomas St., a resident came to the station to complain that his computer has been infected by an unknown party who is demanding ransom;
2:10 p.m.: animal complaint, Westfield Animal Shelter, 187 Apremont Way, a resident came to the shelter to surrender a cockatiel which had belonged to a deceased relative;
4:18 p.m.: vandalism, tin bridge, Ponders Hollow Road, a caller reports vandalism to the sewer line near tin bridge, the responding officer reports the line is damaged but not leaking, the DPW was notified;
9:45 p.m.: breaking and entering, Greenwood Avenue a caller reports her boyfriend’s vehicle was broken into. The responding officer reports he found that the vehicle had been entered and the contents of the glove compartment disturbed but nothing appears to be missing.
