1:54 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Mechanic Street at Main Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a traffic infraction and stopped the vehicle, the officer found that the 20-year-old operator had a license issued to an adult in his wallet which he said he was holding for a friend, the officer seized the license and told the operator that his friend could claim his license at the police station;
11:28 a.m.: fire, Little River Road, a caller reports an electrical wire fell on a vehicle starting a fire, see story in the Monday edition of The Westfield News;
11:41 a.m.: officer wanted, Main Street, a caller from a commercial establishment reports a smell of smoke in the building, the caller was advised to evacuate the building, the responding officer reports the smoke odor was created by workers cutting the floor in another part of the building and occupants were allowed to return;
2:29 p.m.: suspicious person, East Main Street, a caller reports a suspicious person seen walking on East Main Street with blood on his face was seen to enter a bathroom in a women’s clothing store, the officer reports he was advised en route that a store security employee was speaking with the man who was found to be a man well known to officers for his proclivity to intentionally inhale aerosol propellant in order to become intoxicated, the man told the officer that he had been “huffing” a can of compressed air and had fallen and injured his face when he passed out, the officer saw a can of compressed air protruding from a pocket and seized it, the man was transported by ambulance to Noble Hospital for treatment and a criminal complaint was filed for a charge of inhaling a substance with toxic vapors;
6:25 p.m.: vandalism, a community policing officer reports that he identified five boys who had been throwing ice balls at passing vehicles and had struck a pickup truck whose owner complained, there was no visible damage to truck, the owner said he did not wish to purse criminal charges but wants the incident documented, the officer delivered a verbal warning to the boys and sent them on their ways.
