Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017

2:24 a.m.: Disabled automobile and arrest, Springfield Road. Police reported that they found a vehicle stopped on Route 20 with the operator outside of it, checking the tires of the vehicle. Police reported that they were suspicious since the tires weren’t flat, and upon talking to the operator, Luis A. Cruz, 41, of Easthampton, they found that he allegedly had signs of impairment. Police reported that Cruz allegedly failed field sobriety tests and was arrested and charged with operating under the influence and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

11:15 a.m.: Accident, North Elm Street and Harvard Street. Police received a report of a two-vehicle crash involving a 2001 Subaru Legacy and a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Police reported that one of the people involved in the accident reported feeling dizzy, so Westfield Fire paramedics arrived via ambulance and transported that person to Baystate Noble Hospital for treatment. One vehicle was also towed.

5:54 p.m.: Identity fraud, walk-in. Police received a report from a man who claimed that his ex-girlfriend opened a utility account in Michigan in his name and she refused to pay. Police are investigating.

7:21 p.m.: Fraud, walk-in. Police received a report from a resident who claimed that someone who alleged to be from Apple had contacted her, requesting information and money. Nothing was compromised but a report was filed just in case. This is a scam that has occurred several times to several different people in the city.
