12:25 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Springfield Road, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating at an estimated 55 mph in a 40 mph zone and reversed direction to follow the car, the officer reports he observed the car swerve across the center line threatening a collision before he was able to stop it, the officer immediately detected an odor of alcohol about the operator who repeatedly denied drinking liquor but failed a field sobriety test, John B. Lutaba, 34, of 74 Donald St., Weymouth, was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor, the car was towed to the police impound yard;
10:30 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Springfield Road, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired, the pickup truck was towed to the police impound yard;
12:24 p.m.: larceny, Southampton Road, a caller reports that four service mats valued at about $800 were stolen from him at a job site in Springfield and he has located the items offered for sale on an Internet site, the man arranged to meet the seller and recovered the mats although the officer reports he is unable to show that the person who had them actually stole them since he claims to be acting only as the agent for the seller, the victim was content to recover his property;
4:03 p.m.: accident, Phelps Avenue at Meadow Street, a patrol officer reports that his investigation of a property damage vehicular crash eventually revealed that an unlicensed operator had been in control of one of the vehicles, a criminal complaint was filed;
5:28 p.m.: accident, Servistar Industrial Way, a caller reports his vehicle struck a utility pole the responding officer reports a tractor-trailer unit jackknifed and struck a utility pole which snapped, no injuries were reported and the G&E was advised that the pole must be replaced.
