Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013
1:38 a.m.: breaking and entering, Monroe Street, a caller reports his home was entered and property was stolen, the responding officer reports the caller said that a friend came to visit and brought two persons he did not know, the caller said that he left his visitors in his apartment while he went to get alcohol and when he returned his guests were no longer there, the man said that he put the alcohol and his wallet on a kitchen table and prepared a meal which he ate in another room, the man said that when he returned to the kitchen both the wallet and the alcohol were gone and he believes his visitors returned without his knowledge and absconded with his property;
8:15 a.m.: city ordinance violation, Main Street, a caller reports two sections of Main Street sidewalk have not been cleared, the responding officer reports one of the sections had been cleared but the second had only been half cleared, the officer reports he spoke with a resident who said that she would rectify the situation;
10:00 a.m.: animal complaint, West Road, a caller reports an injured dog on his property, a responding animal control officer reports he transported the dog to the municipal animal shelter and will evaluate its medical needs;
12:13 p.m.: larceny, East Main Street, a representative of a used car dealership reports a dealer’s registration plate was stolen from a vehicle on the lot;
10:43 p.m.: suspicious vehicle, Tin Bridge, Ponders Hollow Road, a patrol officer reps he encountered an occupied vehicle parked near the Tin Bridge and investigated to find the occupants were in a possession of a small amount of marijuana, a city ordinance violation citation was filed;

1:00 a.m.: accident, Union Avenue, a patrol officer reports he responded to a single vehicle property damage crash and found that the operator displayed symptoms of alcohol intoxication, the man failed a field sobriety test, Corey D. Carroll, 37, of 646 Chicopee St., Chicopee, was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor and for a marked lanes violation;
1:39 a.m.: traffic complaint, North Elm Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a person riding a skateboard in the passing lane of North Elm Street and saw two cars slow to avoid the skateboarder and move to the travel lane to pass, the officer reports he spoke with the skateboarder who was not remorseful and said he had not thought it was a “big deal” but, after he was counseled by the officer, agreed to refrain from such activity in the future;
2:47 a.m.: disturbance, a caller reports a large fight, the responding officer reports that he was assisted by a state trooper who had heard the call and they found several persons in the parking lot, none were fighting and none had complaints or need of police services, the officer reports that a male party in the parking lot was agitated and attempted to interfere as the officers sought to ascertain the situation, despite repeated warnings the man continued to attempt to instigate resistance to the officers’ investigation, Luis M. Santiago-McCain, 23, of 46 Savoy Ave., Springfield, was arrested for disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace by the trooper and transported to the barracks for booking;
7:51 a.m.: violation of a protective order, Belmont Street, a caller reports the defendant of a protective order is banging on her door in violation of the “No contact” clause of the order, the responding officer reports he arrived to find the plaintiff of the order speaking with the defendant, Richard E. Knight, 30, of 18 Mellen St., Chicopee, was arrested for violation of an abuse protection order;
8:18 a.m.: breaking and entering, Pochassic Street, a caller reports her vehicle was broken into overnight, see story in the Monday edition of The Westfield News;
9:48 a.m.: assault, Hawks Circle, a resident came to the station to report his sons were threatened with a knife by an older boy, the responding officer reports the complainant said that his sons were playing in a wooded area when they encountered older boys they knew one of whom was sharpening sticks with a knife, the boys later told their father that the older boy with the knife had offered to let them play a “survival” game and when they declined taunted them and menaced them with the knife, the officer spoke with three of the involved boys and reports the suspect boy was referred to professional help;
9:55 a.m.: breaking and entering, Montgomery Street, a caller reports two vehicles were broken into overnight, see story in the Monday edition of The Westfield News;
10:48 a.m.: vandalism, Morris Street, a resident came to the station to report his mailbox and mail were vandalized, the responding officer reports he found that the complainant’s mail had been intentionally damaged;
11:18 a.m.: breaking and entering, Montgomery Street, a caller reports her vehicle was broken into overnight, see story in the Monday edition of The Westfield News;
11:21 a.m.: breaking and entering, Prospect Street, a caller reports his vehicle was broken into overnight, see story in the Monday edition of The Westfield News;
12:33 p.m.: city ordinance violation, Main Street, a caller reports he assisted an elderly woman who fell due to an uncleared sidewalk, the responding officer reports he spoke with the homeowner responsible of the section of sidewalk in question and was assured that the sidewalk would be sanded;
5:45 p.m.: vandalism, Little River Road, a caller reports that while his vehicle was parked at his workplace something was thrown at his car’s windshield which broke it, the caller does not require a formal report but wants the incident documented;

Monday, Jan. 7, 2012
1:09 p.m.: parking violation, Jefferson Street at Hampden Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle parked more than 12 inches from the curb and within 20 feet of an intersection, the officer reports the rear wheel of the car was measured to be three feet six inches from the curb and was parked within the intersection;
2:51 a.m.: arrest, Union Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a known party and a routine check revealed him to be the subject of an outstanding warrant, Steven J. Grimsley, 21, of 15 Norton St., was arrested on the warrant;
7:46 a.m.: officer wanted, East Main Street, a caller from an East Main Street gas station reports a male party in a vehicle is acting strangely and refuses to leave, the responding officer reports the manager of the gas station reports the man has been found to be sleeping in his parked car on the property in the past, the man was served a “No trespassing” order;
7:58 a.m.: city ordinance violation, Main Street, a caller reports sidewalk adjacent to a George Street business is very icy, the responding officer reports the business owner said that his snow blower was broken and he was working on the sidewalk manually;
10:07 a.m.: disturbance, East Main Street, a detective reports that on Friday he had been contacted by a representative of an East Main Street bank who complained that the day before a male party had appeared at the door of the bank a few minutes after closing time saying that he needed to make a withdrawal, the complainant said that the man was very agitated when told the bank was closed and made threats, the banker told the detective that she was concerned that the man was attempting to enter the bank on a ruse for nefarious purposes, the detective reports that his investigation identified the probable suspect who was found to be an account holder although he was unable to make direct contact with the man, the banker was advised of the detective’s findings and told him that the customer would be advised to close his account and would then be served a “No trespass” order for all the bank’s properties;
11:08 a.m.: city ordinance violation, Southampton Road, a caller reports sidewalk adjacent to an open field near the turnpike entrance is not cleared and pedestrians are walking in the roadway, the responding officer reports he was able to determine the property owner and spoke with a representative who said that he would get a crew to clear the sidewalk within 24 hours;
2:40 p.m.; school investigation, Southampton Road School, 330 Southampton Road, a detective reports she was advised that a knife was seen to fall from a boy’s pocket, the detective reports that she took custody of the knife and the boy was suspended for one day in conformance with the school’s zero tolerance policy regarding knives in school;
2:56 p.m.; larceny, Montgomery Road, a resident came to the station to report property was stolen from her room, the responding officer reports the complainant said that she had been away for a few days and returned to the room she rents in a private house and found that clothing and a bracelet were missing, the complainant said that she suspects another tenant may be responsible, the case was referred to the Detective Bureau;
3:03 p.m.: found property, Elm Street, a resident came to the station to surrender a purse he found in a common stairway in his apartment building, the responding officer reports the man said that he found the pocket book on Saturday and has been unable to find any neighbor who knows the woman identified by the contents of the purse, the officer reports he was unable to immediately contact he owner and the purse was stored for safe keeping;
8:18 p.m.: harassment, School Street, a representative of a School Street business came to the station report seven harassing phone calls, the responding officer reports the messages were found to be suggestive and were not germane to the complainant’s business, the officer reports he was not able to immediately speak with suspect and the case remains under investigation.
