2:25 a.m.: Breaking and entering, motor vehicle, East Mountain Road. Police received a report of a vehicle that was reportedly broken into and called into Westfield Police by State Police. The State Police believed that the alleged break-in was related to an incident they were tending to. No arrest was made at the time of the report.

2:02 p.m.: Identity fraud, walk-in. Police received a report of someone who had been reportedly notified by the IRS that someone filed taxes using their information. Police also reported that “other agencies” are investigating.

3:16 p.m.: Larceny, Glenwood Drive. Police received a report of a set of golf clubs that was reportedly stolen sometime in the past two weeks. However, upon further investigation the clubs were found to be misplaced and eventually found.

5:47 p.m.: Motor vehicle violation and arrest, Parkside Avenue and George Street. Police reported that while running information on a license plate for a vehicle in the police’s computer system, it was found that the plates were reportedly for a different vehicle and allegedly had revoked insurance. While police were on scene near the vehicle, they reported that a person allegedly came up to the vehicle and unlocked the door. Police approached the person, David Collazo, 31, of Springfield, and also found that the vehicle allegedly had 4.5 ounces of marijuana in the car, heroin packaging, drug scale and approximately 200 bags of what appeared to be heroin but was tested and found not to be heroin. Police arrested Collazo and charged him with an uninsured motor vehicle, unregistered motor vehicle, number plate violation to conceal ID, possession to distribute class D drug, possession to distribute counterfeit drug and also had a warrant that he was arrested on.

6:33 p.m.: Burglary/breaking and entering, Allen Avenue. Police received a report of a home that was allegedly broken into and electronics that had been stolen. Police reported that the entrance to the home appeared to have happened through an unlocked door and a neighbor across the street allegedly saw a person at the home. Police are investigating.

10:26 p.m.: Well-being check and arrest, Broad Street. Police were reportedly called multiple times by someone at a residence on Broad Street. The calls were allegedly in relation to a visitor at the residence, who was allegedly from a group home. Police arrived to the residence and talked to Steven G. Sassi, 53, of Westfield, who was claimed to have made the calls. Police talked to Sassi about the visitor, who Sassi claimed had “passed out” on his bed. Eventually, police reported that Sassi had allegedly struck an officer in the face with a “closed fist” and then allegedly attempted to prevent the officers from arresting him by reportedly holding his arms in. Police arrested Sassi and charged him with assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.
