Emergency response and crime report
Friday, May 15, 2015
9:18 a.m.:
violation of city ordinance, patrol officer reports sign advertising a service attached to utility poles on treebelt in violation of city ordinance, signs removed and brought to station;
11:01 a.m.: property found, Elm Street, citizen turned in two registration plates found on steps of Westfield Athenaeum, plates were reported stolen by a King Street resident on April 29, 2015, data entered into Registry of Motor Vehicles registry;
11:30 a.m.: motor vehicle accident North Elm Street at Pochassic Street (Drug Store Hill), caller reports a truck making a turn knocked over the traffic light at that corner, officer reports locating the truck and that a citation was issued and information for insurance claim taken, Westfield Gas & Electric repair crew on scene;
1:21 p.m.: larceny, Old Farm Road, citizen came to station to report theft of a five-foot-tall decorative metal trellis, officer reports information taken;
2:22 p.m.: larceny, Mechanic Street, Old Burying Grounds, a member of the Westfield Historical Commission reports the theft of three scrolled cast-iron faceplates from gate of the cemetery which is on the national registry of historic places;
8:44 p.m.: hit and run accident, Whip City Pub, 287 North Elm Street, employee reports several vehicles damaged by a motorist while he was leaving the parking lot, pub manager provided information to investigating officer by reviewing security footage taken of the parking lot, officer located the subject and his vehicle, which show recent damage and had paint from the other involved vehicle, at a Lynnwood Drive residence, officer issued citations for operating a motor vehicle so as to endanger the public and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

1:35 a.m.:
medical emergency, Torrington Building, North Elm Street, caller reports a man has sustained a facial laceration and swelling around the eye, officer reports man declined to provide information and was transported to Noble Hospital for treatment;
10:12 a.m.: fraud, Carroll Drive, citizen came to station to report being notified by her bank that her debt card had been used in Sherman Oaks, California in the amount of $3,000, bank working with banks and police in California to identify suspect;
11:06 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, East Main Street, officer requesting a tow truck to removed a motorcycle, registration had been revoked, citation issued;
4:38 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, arrest, Orange Street, officer reports a motor vehicle being operated without a valid inspection sticker, officer checked Registry data, Ronald H. Baudin, 48, of 5 Sackett St., taken into custody on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, subsequent offense, and operating without a valid safety inspection sticker.

12:38 a.m.:
hit and run accident, arrest, Maple Leaf Inn, 11 Arnold St., caller reports that her vehicle was struck by another vehicle in the parking lot and that the other motorist failed to stop. Motorist turned onto Arnold Street going west toward Washington Street, officer reports vehicle was later located on Elm Street, Zoe Cruz, 34, of 5 Pinelawn Road, Longmeadow, charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of a property-damage accident, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle without headlights;
2:46 a.m.: hit and run accident, arrest, Westfield Road, West Springfield, Union Street, Westfield, caller on Route 20 reports that he vehicle was struck by another vehicle while the caller was stopped at the traffic light at Little George’s Restaurant, caller attempted to follow the other vehicle and provided a description before he lost visual contact when the vehicle turned onto Union Street, officers patrolling that area observed the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop, the subject declined to stop until he pulled into the parking lot of 134 Union Street, officers approached the subject to question him about the accident in West Springfield, while officers were speaking with the subject officers of the West Springfield Police Department were reroute to investigate the accident, subject became agitated and a physical confrontation ensued during which an officer sustained a hand injury, Victor Jose Guzman, 26, of 134 Union St. arrested on two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, to wit a shod foot, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and failing to stop for a patrol officer;
1:00 p.m.: larceny, Home Depot, 514 East Main St., employee of store reports that the lock on her locker was cut and that her purse was taken, officer reports working with store security to identify a suspect;
2:56 p.m.: vandalism, Orange Street, caller reports that his 2007 Lexus was spayed with paint, officer reports information taken;
4:32 p.m.: emergency response, 33 Elm Street, caller reports entering apartment and finding an unresponsive man, caller confirmed man was breathing, ambulance dispatched, EMS report strong odor of natural gas, engine dispatched, source was determined to be kitchen stove, apartment vented, man transported to Noble Hospital;
5:00 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Montgomery Road, patrol officer observed a motorcycle being operated without registration plates, motorcyclist fled up Notre Dame Street to Montgomery Street when officer attempted to stop him, officer described the subject as an Hispanic man wearing a grey T-shirt and a white helmet, state police notified, officers located the motorcycle hidden in the area of 270 Notre Dame Street, motorcycle towed, officer issued 10 citations: operating a motor vehicle after revocation of license; failing to stop for a police officer; operating a motor vehicle so as to endanger the public safety; three marked lane violations; a stop sign violation; operating an unregistered motor vehicle and operating an uninsured motor vehicle;
6:14 p.m.: larceny, Stop & Shop supermarket, employees reports that her pocketbook was taken, pocketbook recovered but money and other items taken, officer reports working with store security to identify suspect.
