8:03 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, North Elm Street, a traffic bureau officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and it was towed;
8:42 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, North Elm Street, a traffic bureau officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and it was towed to the police impound yard;
9:11 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Paper Mill Road, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired as was the operator’s license, the car was towed to the police impound yard;
12:26 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, East Main Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and it was towed to the police impound yard;
12:49 p.m.: fraud, Powder Mill Village, 126 Union St., a resident came to the station to report she has been defrauded, the responding officer reports the woman said that she had applied for a job found online and her new ‘employer’ sent her a check for $2,750 instructing her to cash the check, buy office supplies, pay herself and send two $1,000 money orders to a third party, the woman said she complied with her instructions and subsequently was advised by her bank that the check had been fraudulent and the money withdrawn from her account to cover it made her account overdrawn, the woman said she called her ‘boss’ who assured her that the check was legitimate, the officer reports he advised the woman of the common scam;
12:50 p.m.: vandalism, Susan Drive, a caller reports vandalism to the water department booster station, the responding officer reports the caller said that the structure had been intact on Saturday but on Monday numerous holes were found in the siding, the caller estimated the value of the damage to be about $4,000;
2:59 p.m.: fraud, Granville Road, a caller said that fraudulent checks were cashed on his business account, the responding officer reports the caller said that 27 forged checks totaling more than $10,000 were found to have been cashed between 17 Oct and 30 Oct., the officer reports the bank was notified and the account was frozen;
4:11 p.m.: threat to commit a crime, Boys and Girls Club of Greater Westfield, 28 W. Silver St., a staff member reports a client threatened to burn down her home, the responding officer reports he spoke with the child’s parents, the caller said that she does not need any action taken but wants the incident to be documented;
4:23 p.m.: larceny, Laura Drive, a caller reports her daughter’s former fiancée stole her daughter’s engagement ring, the responding officer reports he spoke with the suspect who surrendered the ring to police custody pending a court determination of ownership;
9:45 p.m.: breaking and entering, Orange Street, a caller reports a neighbor entered his residence surreptitiously, the responding officer reports a resident told him that she saw a person with a flashlight ascending the stairs and screamed when he entered her bedroom, the resident said the man fled, Dana C. Hebda, 53, of 57 Orange St., was arrested for breaking and entering a building in the nighttime with intent to commit a misdemeanor.
