Major crime and incident report

8:42 a.m.: Vandalism, North Elm Street. An owner of a building on North elm Street reported two instances of vandalism that have occurred to his property recently. Police reported that over the past two nights rocks have been thrown through an outside sign and a window. Police have no witnesses or suspects at the time of the report.

1:46 p.m.: Accident, Southampton Road. Police received a report of a rear-end collision involving a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2016 Hyundai Accent. Police initially reported no injuries, however a state trooper on scene later reported that one of the parties began complaining of pain and requested an ambulance. The injured party was transported to Baystate Noble Hospital by Westfield Fire paramedics.

4:56 p.m.: Disturbance, Sherman Street. Police received a report of a disturbance involving two males that was reported by one of the party’s nieces. Police reported that one of the males shoved the other into a car. However, upon police arrival neither party were willing to press charges.

10:10 p.m.: Well-being check, Walmart, Springfield Road. Police received a report for two parties, one adult and one child, that appear to be passed out. People reportedly were banging on the vehicle but neither party would respond. Police responded to the scene and had to force entry into the vehicle, which then caused the two parties to awake. No drugs were suspected and both parties were reportedly heavily asleep. One officer was also injured when glass sliced his hand.

10:23 p.m.: Suspicious activity, East Silver Street and Kasper Drive. Police received a report for suspicious activity outside of an elderly complex. According to police there was a suspicious vehicle in the area that was occupied by four individuals. Police investigated and found that one of the parties, David M. Riopelle, 48, of Westfield, had a warrant out for his arrest. Upon searching Riopelle police also found a small amount of heroin. The driver of the vehicle, John H. Rajab, 48, of Indian Orchard, was searched and also had a small amount of heroin. Police arrested Riopelle on the warrant and also charged both him and Rajab with possession of a class A drug.
