8:38 a.m.: illegal burning, Western Avenue, a deputy fire chief reports illegal burning at a Western Avenue company, the responding fire captain reports firefighters extinguished the fire;
9:11 a.m.: school investigation, Crown Street, a school resource officer at Westfield High School requests assistance with two truant pupils, the SRO reports that a school administrator informed him of a freshman boy who boarded a bus but has not been to classes, the SRO reports he and a second boy were found at a nearby convenience store and the responding officer transported them the school where administrative sanctions were applied;
10:17 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, East Main Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating without a valid inspection sticker and stopped the car, the operator’s license was found to be suspended and the vehicle was found to be unregistered, Michael J. Holmes, 38, of 342 Southwick Road, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, for operating an unregistered motor vehicle and for operating a motor vehicle which does not meet RMV safety standards , during the booking process Holmes was found to be in possession of an unlabeled vial of prescription medication and he was also charged with possession of a Class E drug, the car was towed to the police impound yard;
12:29 p.m.: officer wanted, Russell Road School, 754 Russell Road, a caller reports a 17-year-old pupil left the school because he was unwilling to stay, the responding officer reports the boy was found and transported to his Sackett Road foster home;
12:46 p.m.: larceny, Main Street, a caller from a Main Street business reports that a container for charitable donations on the counter was stolen, the responding officer reports the caller identified a suspect and will call again when the customer returns;
1:16 p.m.: prisoner transport, Westfield District Court, 2124 Elm Street, an officer detailed to transport a prisoner to court reports that court officials discovered that the prisoner was in possession of a packet of heroin, the prisoner was charged with possession of a Class A drug;
2:27 p.m.: larceny, Franklin Avenue School, 22 Franklin Ave., a caller reports a teacher’s cellphone was stolen and subsequently found in a pupil’s bag, the responding officer reports the fourth grade suspect was subjected to administrative sanctions;
5:38 p.m.: suspicious person, Lindbergh Boulevard, a caller reports seeing a male party trying to break into his vehicle parked in his driveway, the responding officer reports the caller said that a male party who had been pulling on the handle of his vehicle fled when he went outside and he could hear another person urging the fleeing man to hurry, the officer reports a search of the area did not yield a suspect;
6:32 p.m.: larceny, Stuart Place, an officer reports a resident showed him documents showing that her credit card was fraudulently used in another state, the woman said that she had already spoken with Michigan State Police who are looking into the larceny;
7:09 p.m.: lost property, Clark Street, a caller reports losing her Vera Bradley purse, the woman said that she may have lost it at Westfield State University and does not require a formal report but wants her loss documented in case it is found, see 3:42 p.m. Sunday entry;
8:51 p.m.: officer wanted, Paper Street, a caller reports someone has recently posted “No parking per police department” signs on the street, the responding officer reports three signs were removed and transported to the station pending a determination of their legitimacy;

1:54 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Orange Street at Maple Street, officers report a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and it was towed;
3:45 a.m.: assist other agency, Westfield State University, 577 Western Ave., WSU police request the use of a cell for an arrested person, a cell monitor was provided;
7:36 a.m.: animal complaint, City View Road at City View Boulevard, a caller reports there husky dogs are running loose, the responding officer reports he followed the dogs but they eventually lost him;
8:14 a.m.: violation of a protective order, Elm Street, a patrol officer reports he was advised that the defendant of a protective order has violated the ‘No contact’ clause of the order by contacting the plaintiff via a third party, the officer reports the plaintiff’s claim was substantiated, Carlos E. Sifontes, 47, of 21 Union St., was arrested for violation of a harassment protective order;
9:44 a.m.: animal complaint, Granville Road, a caller reports taking custody of two stray dogs, a responding animal control officer reports the dogs were transported to the municipal animal shelter;
10:54 a.m.: found property, Cross Street, a caller reports finding a mountain bike on his front lawn, the bicycle was transported to the station for safekeeping;
12:25 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Russell Road, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
1:04 p.m.: larceny, Powder Mill Village, 126 Union St., a caller reports her sister stole her vehicle overnight and stole money from her bank account, the responding officer reports the vehicle was returned later in the afternoon but a credit card which had been in the vehicle had been fraudulently used, a criminal complaint for the larceny by unauthorized use of a credit card was filed;
1:31 p.m.: Scenic Road, a caller reports three boys who are not from the neighborhood are riding skateboards down a hill in the neighborhood, the responding officer reports the three youths were very cooperative and left the area upon request;
2:02 p.m.: accident, Buck Pond Road, an ATV patrol officer reports he encountered a 17-year-old youth operating a three-wheeled ATV on city property and pursued the youth to his family’s Buck Pond Road property, the youth was sent to get his parents but crashed into tree and injured his leg while en route, the youth was transported to Baystate Medical Center where he was treated and released;
3:57 p.m.: larceny, Colonial Pine Acres, 50 Southampton Road, a caller reports medications and jewelry are missing, the responding officer reports the woman said that although there are no signs of forcible entry several rings and prescription medication have been stolen;
4:17 p.m.: officer wanted, Westfield Athenaeum, 6 Elm Street, a caller reports that a visiting author who presented a program at the library threatened to slash an employee’s tires, the caller said that the man does not live locally and no damage was found after his departure, the caller does not require a formal report but wants the incident documented;
4:28 p.m.: found property, Atwater Street, a caller reports finding what he believes to be live ammunition, the responding officer reports the single .38 caliber round shows evidence of exposure to weather and appears to have been run over by a vehicle, the officer took custody of the bullet for proper disposal;
6:34 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Elm Street, a patrol officer reports a routine check revealed the registration of a vehicle seen operating had been revoked for lack of insurance, the vehicle was stopped and the operator was found to be unlicensed, Darwin M. Cruz-Cotto, 26, of 81 Pine St., Holyoke, was arrested for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and operating an unregistered motor vehicle;
10:04 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Southampton Road, a patrol officer reports he observed a person operating an unregistered scooter in the roadway, a routine check revealed the man to be the subject of an outstanding warrant, Zachary Isham, 28, of 200 Southwick Road, was arrested on the warrant;
10:54 p.m.: suspicious person, Mallard Lane, a patrol officer reports a person found at the school appeared to be impaired but passed a series of field sobriety tests, the man left the area.
