7:54 a.m.: animal complaint, Holyoke Road, a caller reports a moose in the middle of the roadway, the responding animal control officer reports the moose moved to a backyard, Pioneer Valley Railroad workers were advised of the hazard which could be caused if the moose wanders to the nearby tracks;
8:05 a.m.: larceny, School Street, a resident came to the station to report her vehicle was stolen, the responding officer reports the woman said that she parked her car in a gravel parking lot on School Street and found it gone when she returned although she still has the only key;
9:27 a.m.: larceny, Washington Street, a caller reports her vehicle was stolen, the responding officer reports the woman said that she locked and parked her car in the lot at her apartment complex about 1:30 p.m. on Monday and on Tuesday morning found it gone, the victim said that she still has the only key;
10:24 a.m.: found property, a credit card was found to have been left in the lobby of the police department, the card was secured for safekeeping;
10:36 a.m.: found property, Main Street, a pedestrian came to he station to surrender a wallet found on Main Street, the responding officer reports he went to the address on the license found in the wallet but discovered that the owner no longer lives there, the wallet also contained an identification card issued by a nearby college and a representative of that institution was contacted who agreed to notify the owner of the wallet;
12:45 p.m.: accident, East Main Street, a caller reports a three car crash, the responding officer reports the crash involved five vehicles, the officer reports that two were stopped and two were slowing to stop when a fifth car struck the rearmost vehicle causing a chain reaction crash, the 86-year-old operator of the offending vehicle said that she does not remember what happened to cause the crash, she and two of the other operators were transported to Noble Hospital and their of the vehicles were towed to the police impound yard;
1:12 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, North Elm Street, a traffic enforcement officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and it was towed;
2:08 p.m.: recovered motor vehicle, School Street, a vehicle reported stolen in Springfield was found to be parked at a School Street parking lot, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
4:10 p.m.: assist citizen, Washington House, 16 Washington Street, a resident came to the station to request assistance entering his apartment which he has locked himself out of, services rendered;
4:44 p.m.: animal complaint, Linden Ave, a caller reports finding an uninjured parakeet, the director of animal control operations said that the bird will be picked up on Wednesday;
4:45 p.m.: disturbance, Union Street, a caller from an automotive care facility reports a male party is attempting to remove a vehicle, the responding officer reports the caller said that the man was attempting to remove his father’s vehicle from storage and was told that it could not be released to him as he does not own it, the owner was contacted and said that his son does not have permission to take the car, the man nonetheless attempted to move another stored vehicle to gain access to his father’s car and caused damage, Dennis Koshechko, 30, of 92 Great Plains Road, West Springfield, was arrested for wanton destruction of property valued more than $250, breaking and entering a vehicle in the daytime and for trespass;
7:35 p.m.: larceny, East Main Street, a caller reports two women entered a store and stole a shopping-cart-load of merchandise, the responding officer reports the caller said that two women with a child entered and one subsequently came to the register to make a small purchase, the caller said that when the woman left she pushed a pre-positioned cart laden with child and household products out of the door, the caller said that she first checked to see if the merchandise had been purchased at the pharmacy and then went outside where she was able to record the registration number of the vehicle the women left in, the vehicle was found to be registered at an Agawam address.
