Monday, Oct. 15, 2012
12:57 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Montgomery Road at Furrowtown Road, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the operator’s license was found to have been suspended, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
9:36 a.m.; larceny, Airport Drive, a caller reports a larceny overnight, the responding officer reports the caller said that overnight Saturday a generator valued at $1,250 was stolen from the yard of a retail business, the caller provided a copy of the store’s security video which shows a man loading the generator on to a pickup truck, the case was referred to the detective bureau where the investigation is proceeding;
10:59 a.m.: found property, Washington Street, a caller reports finding a bicycle next to a commercial building, the responding officer reports the bike was transported to the station for safe keeping;
12:06 p.m.: larceny, East Silver Street, a caller from an East Silver Street supermarket reports a past larceny, the responding officer reports a store employee said that a review of security video showed two female parties stealing baby formula, a copy of the security video will be forwarded to the detective bureau to assist with the investigation;
12:22 p.m.; breaking and entering, Fowler Street, a caller reports a residence may have been broken into, the responding officer report the caller said that she went to the address and noticed a broken window, the resident was notified and returned to find that entry had been gained and a video game system and games had been stolen;
12:26 p.m.: found property, a person came to the station to surrender a license, debit card and other found property, the items were held at the station for safe keeping;
12:28 p.m.: vandalism, Franklin Avenue School, a caller reports discarded caulking was removed from a rubbish receptacle and smeared on a play structure and subsequently transferred to playing children, the responding officer reports that several children got the caulking on their clothes and persons, the school nurse assisted with the cleanup and no outside medical assistance was found to be necessary;
2:01 p.m.: found property, Yeoman Avenue, a person came to the station to surrender a set of keys found on Yeoman Avenue, the keys were held for safe keeping;
10:04 p.m.: accident, Granville Road, multiple callers report a pickup truck struck a car parked in a driveway and pushed the car into the house, see story in the Tuesday edition of The Westfield News;

8:20 a.m.: traffic complaint, Shaker Road, a traffic detail officer reports trees have been cut which have fallen onto guy wires for a utility pole and into the street, the responding officer reports two trees were cut which brought down a guy wire and are restricting traffic, the G&E was notified and a crew was dispatched to make repairs and remove the trees, the officer reports he was unable to immediately speak with the resident on whose property the fallen trees had been growing;
10:43 a.m.: animal complaint, Pleasant Street, a patrol officer reports he encountered a stray dog, the responding officer reports a female pit bull dog was taken into custody;
4:00 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Southampton Road, a traffic enforcement officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and it was towed to the police impound yard;
4:29 p.m.: larceny, Springfield Road, a caller from a Springfield Road department store requests an officer for a shoplifter who has been detained in the store, the responding officer reports an employee told him that a male party attempted to leave the store with a cart full of merchandise which had not been paid for, the employee said that when he was escorting the man back inside the suspect pushed him and attempted to flee but was restrained by the employee and a colleague, Joel W. Gauthier, 28, of 8 Dalton St., Wilbraham, was arrested for shoplifting by asportation;
4:35 p.m.: found property, a resident came to the station to surrender a wallet he said his father had found a few days earlier, the dispatcher reports a message was left for the owner of the wallet;
5:04 p.m.: larceny, East Bartlett Street, a Westfield State University student came to the station to report his $400 bicycle was stolen, the responding officer reports the man said that on Oct 7 he left his unlocked bike behind his girlfriend’s residence and on Oct. 12 he found it had been stolen;
5:34 p.m.: abandoned 911 call, Sackett Street, an office responded to an abandoned 911 call and found a male party who said that his girlfriend was too drunk for him to care for, the officer entered the residence where he observed that the woman displayed the classic symptoms of alcohol intoxication, the woman was talking on her cell phone and she alternately objected to the officer’s presence in insulting terms and complained about him to the person she was speaking with, the woman pushed the officer and was advised she was under arrest, the woman was uncooperative when placed in a cruiser and had to be repeatedly physically restrained, Tina M. Huffman, 45, of 303 Sackett Road, was arrested for assault and battery on a police officer;
6:05 p.m.: fraud, The Willows Apartments, 19 Lockhouse Road, a resident came to the station to report fraudulent use of his debit card, the responding officer reports the complainant said that he discovered two fraudulent debits from his account totaling about $500, the account was closed and the case was referred to the financial crimes unit of the Detective Bureau.
