8:04 a.m.: vandalism, Jefferson Street, a caller reports the tires on her vehicle were slashed as were her neighbor’s tires, the responding officer reports the victims said that they discovered the damage when they went out to their cars in the morning and both said that they have recently had issues with a former fellow tenant;
8:45 a.m.: found property, Tanglewood Drive at Hillside Road, a resident came to the station to surrender a cellular telephone he found, the phone was stored for safe keeping;
9:29 a.m.: infrastructure complaint, Barbara Street, a caller reports wires are down in the street, the responding officer reports he removed cable television wires from the roadway, the utility was notified and dispatched a crew;
9:35 a.m.: assist citizen, Jefferson Street, a resident walked to fire headquarters seeking assistance gaining entry to her vehicle where her keys were locked inside, the responding firefighters report entry was made without damage to the vehicle;
9:44 a.m.: arrest, Southwood Acres, 342 Southwick Road, a detective reports he assisted as Troopers from the State Police violent fugitive apprehension team attempted to serve warrants at the apartment complex, Ryck Crabtree, 23, of 342 Southwick Road, was arrested on four outstanding warrants;
9:49 a.m.: vandalism, Southview Terrace, a caller reports the rear window of his vehicle was smashed out, the responding officer reports the instrument used to break the window was not found;
10:05 a.m.: harassment, Riverside Drive, a resident came to the station to report harassment, the responding officer reports that the complainant said that a known woman with whom she has ongoing issues has physically assaulted her and has attempted to strike her with a vehicle, the officer reports a harassment order was issued and a criminal complaint was filed;
11:03 a.m.: illegal dumping, North West Road, a representative of a North West Road camp reports via the online reporting option that a television and bags of trash had been dumped on the camp property;
11:37 a.m.: animal complaint, Westfield Animal Shelter, 178 Apremont Way, the director of animal control operations reports that a person surrendered a male brindled pit bull dog about four years old;
12:25 p.m.: animal complaint, Brentwood Drive, the animal control officer reports she took custody of a found dog and transported it to the municipal animal shelter;
1:35 p.m.: school investigation, Westfield High School, 177 Montgomery Road, a school resource officer reports he was advised of the theft of a cellphone from a student’s locker during athletic practice, the SRO reports the school’s investigation lead to the recovery of the phone;
1:45 p.m.: vandalism, railroad bridge east of Chapman Playground, a community policing officer reports he discovered fresh graffiti on the railroad trestle and a homeless man in the area identified two men he said he had seen applying the graffiti, the officer reports he had seen the two suspects in the area moments before he found the vandalism, the CP officer reports cans of spray paint found nearby were seized as evidence;
2:40 p.m.: suspicious item, Southampton Road, passing motorist reports a suitcase is on the side of the roadway, the responding officer reports the owner of the small suitcase was identified by the contents;
2:48 p.m.: suspicious activity, Shepard Street, a community policing officer reports he encountered two 15-year-old boys on the dike with BB guns, the boys were transported to the home of one of them and his mother was advised that the boys should not be using BB guns on city property;
6:47 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Union Street, a patrol officer requests assistance with the occupants of a vehicle who attempted to flee from him, the officer reports that he attempted a traffic stop and the vehicle did not immediately stop, the officer reports the vehicle pulled into a parking lot and drove behind a building and when he approached both occupants had exited the vehicle and appeared poised to flee before he ordered them to the ground at gunpoint, the operator acknowledged that he had been driving improperly and the passenger said that he had repeatedly asked the driver to slow down, the operator failed a field sobriety test, Joseph A. Pieciak Jr., 48, of 136 Queen Ave, West Springfield, was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor, failure to stop for police and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
7:52 p.m.: larceny, a community policing officer reports he received a call from a political candidate who reported that campaign signs have been stolen on White Street, Meadow Street and Mechanic Street, the CP officer reports he advised the candidate that no signs have been picked up or delivered to the department.
