Friday, Oct. 25, 2013
9:40 a.m.: suspicious tent, Bates Road, a patrol officer reports he followed up on a report of an unattended tent behind a Bates Road residence and found no evidence that the owner had been there since it was first found, the tent was collapsed and the officer left another note for the owner of the tent;
10:14 a.m.: infrastructure complaint, Spruce Street, a caller reports several gallons of paint were spilled in the roadway, the DPW was notified;
10:25 a.m.: assist citizen, Holyoke Road, a caller reports he is stranded on a roof because the wind blew his ladder down, the responding officer reports he was able to replace the ladder and advised the caller to suspend work until it is less windy;
10:30 a.m.: officer wanted, Jefferson Street, a caller requests an officer to speak with her son who has stolen money from her, the responding officer reports he spoke with the boy about the consequences of stealing and he said he would not do it again;
1:29 p.m.: larceny, Main Street, a caller reports she was pushed down and robbed, the responding officer reports the caller said that about three quarters of an hour earlier she had been walking with a $10 bill in her hand and knelt down to tie her shoe, the woman said that while she was kneeling a male party grabbed the bill from her hand and fled;
1:31 p.m.: school investigation, Westfield Vocational-Technical High School, 33 Smith Ave., a school resource officer reports that a pupil said that a schoolmate has been posting threats against her on a social networking website and, although she has blocked the suspect, her friends tell her she is still posting threats, the SRO reports the suspect was not at school and he left a telephone message for her, the caller was advised to ask her friends to document the continuing threats;
3:49 p.m.: suspicious property, Elm Street at Orange Street, a caller reports seeing a smoldering plastic bottle, the respond officer reports the bottle was found to have been used as a makeshift pipe made to smoke marijuana, the fire was extinguished, no suspects were found in the area;
5:08 p.m.: suspicious person, William Street, a caller reports a known person is trying to enter a residence while the homeowner is absent, the responding detective reports the suspect had used a ladder to gain entry after he was informally evicted, the detective reports that the man said that he was gathering clothing and mail he had been waiting for, officers found nothing amiss in the residence but the detective reports that the man was found to be in possession of a woman’s debit card which was seized;
5:47 p.m.: annoying phone calls, Montgomery Street, a resident came to the station to complain of annoying phone calls and text messages from a former boyfriend, the responding officer reports he spoke with the male party and advised him to stop contacting the caller;
7:18 p.m.: assault, Southwick Road, a resident came to the station to report he was assaulted by his brother, the responding officer reports her brother punched him during an argument, a criminal compliant was filed;
9:52 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Main Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle was found to have registration revoked for lack of insurance, the vehicle was towed for lack of insurance;
11:06 p.m.: vandalism, Gloria Drive, a caller reports someone threw something from her front porch through her front window, the responding officer reports a ceramic pumpkin was use to shatter the window, the victim described the vehicle the perpetrator has been using during the incident;

1:02 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Meadow Street at Main Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating at an unreasonable rate of speed and stopped the vehicle, the officer reports the operators license was found to be suspended, James L. Ahern, 35, of 71 Taylor St., Pittsfield, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and for speeding;
2:25 a.m.: incapacitated person, Washington St., auxiliary officers report finding a person lying on the ground, the responding officer reports the man was provided a courtesy ride home where he was surrendered to the custody of his roommate;
2:32 a.m.: parking violation, Holyoke Road, a patrol officer reports he observed five cars parked in the westbound lane of Holyoke Road, the officer reports he found the vehicle operators at a nearby address and advised them to move their cars, the officer reports he also advised the operators of the consequences of non-compliance;
11:34 a.m.: disturbance, Henry’s Trailer Park, 868 Southampton Road, a caller reports he was assaulted by a known party, the respond officer reports that the caller said that his roommate punched him and a witness supported his account of the vents, Melissa L. Gibney, 41, of 868 Southampton Road, was arrested for assault and battery in a domestic relationship;
12:13 p.m.: vandalism, Root Road, a resident reports via the online reporting option that her mailbox was vandalized;
1:47 p.m.: fire, Henry’s Trailer Park, 868 Southampton Road, a maintenance person reports residents extinguished a small porch fire, the responding fire captain reports the fire was extinguished but the side of the trailer and the porch were damaged, firefighters ensured that the fire was completely extinguished and report that the cause was probably smoking material which were not extinguished with care;
3:40 p.m.: traffic complaint, Whitaker Road, multiple callers report a tree fell across the roadway, brought down wires and sparked a brush fire, the responding officer reports the fire was extinguished a DPW crew arrived to deal with the tree and a G&E crew repaired the power lines, the road was open to traffic at 5:03 p.m.;
5:52 p.m.:  vandalism, Montgomery Road, a resident reports via the online reporting option that her mailbox was vandalized;
6:07 p.m.: burning complaint, Hampden Street, a caller reports a neighbor has a large bonfire and said she is concerned that the wind will be problematic, the responding fire captain reports the resident extinguished the fire;
6:37 p.m.: animal complaint, City View Boulevard, a caller reports a deer struck his vehicle, the responding officer reports the caller said that a deer ran out of the woods and struck the side of his vehicle causing a dent, the deer left the area;
6:40 a.m.: larceny, Hampden Street, a caller reports that his scooter was stolen from his porch by a known 13-year-old boy, the responding officer reports the suspect said that he borrowed the scooter and the victim said that it was returned;
10:33 p.m.: vandalism, Wyben Road, a caller reports his mailbox was vandalized for the second time in two nights, the respond officer reports the caller said that the mailbox was apparently struck by a bat, the caller does not require a formal report but wants the incident documented.
